Spares / consumables Marshalling box components as per OEM list.

7 Precautions:
 Wear all the required PPE’s
 Ensure the Isolation of correct Breaker and Isolators.
 Ensure the Transformer has been disconnected from both end. (GCB,
Switchyard, MV Switchgear)
 Ensure that No live power in equipment with high voltage tester.
 Follow standard EHS and engineering practices throughout the job.

8 Procedure:
8.1 Daily:
1. Check oil level of main transformer and OLTC
2. Check the temperature of winding temperature indicator and oil
temperature indicator
3. Check oil leakage
4. Check the silica gel color and oil in breather

8.2 Half Yearly:

1. Testing of oil samples for BDV and PPM for moisture content. (Top
and bottom oil samples), If BDV & PPM Values are beyond the
required value per manual , then consider Drying of oil / filtration
of oil

2. Testing of oil sample for DGA.

3. Check the silica gel color of breather, Change if it turns to
pink/green.

8.3 Opportunity based outage:

Before starting maintenance work, the transformewr has to be disconnect

from the network and earthed. When the circuit breaker and the isolator
have been opened, they shall be locked in open position to prevent
inadveetently closing during maintenance work.

1. Check and ensure tightness of terminal connection in MB. Clean

and close the rodent entries in the MB.
2. Tightening HV clamps properly as per bolts size tightness required
in Nm
3. Clean inner and outer surface of insulator stack of Power
transformer. Clean contaminated bushings (cleaning agent e.g.
methylated spirit).
4. Check for tightness of all clamps and connectors of Power
Transformer and tighten if found loose.
5. Ensure the tightness of earthing pad terminal and tighten if found
loose.
6. Observe oil level and also check for oil leakages if any.
7. Check the control logic of the radiator fan and oil pump switching
based on the rise of the temperature of the oil / load ,Check Fan
and pump .Replace faulty fan and pump
8. Check the Local Gauges, OTI & WTI, MOG of main Conservator &
OLTC Conservator , Temperature Transmitters etc for the
healthiness.
9. Functional checks of WTI,OTI,PRV,Buchholz relay,MOG by
simulating method and check the alarms and events in SCADA/DCS
10. Ensure healthiness of Power Transformer by taking following
testing activities as per testing procedure.

10.1 Measurement of insulation resistance value with PI and Winding

Resistance
10.2 Ratio Test:, Magnetic balance , magnetizing current

10.3 Measurement of Capacitance and dielectric dissipation factor (Tan-δ)

of transformer winding and bushing
10.4 Check the winding resistance of HV (for all taps) and LV
10.5 Check the short circuit test for confirming the Percentage impedance
of HV and LV, HV and LV CT ratios, differential stability.
10.6 Supervisory trials for OTI/WTI/PRV/Buchholz

11. The Record the results and compare results with previous results.
If any deviation observed with respect to previous results, the
results are not satisfactory, inform to higher authority for further
course of action.
12. Check the oil level in transformer bushing. Bushing gaskets if leaks
occur, tightening usally will help, if the gasket has lost its elasticity,
it must be replaced. The reason for loss of elasticity could be
excessive heating or aging.
13. OLTC functional checks
14. Check the tap changing counter
15. Check the tightness of the earthing of Core to Earth and core to
clamp external connections,
16. Check the IR of the Core to clamp and Core to Erath.
17. Inspection and maintenace on the active part should not be
performed unless there are unambiguous indication of defects.
18. Clear all the tools and tackles from the location and clean the area.
19. Clear the PTW
20. Fill up the protocol sheet with all relevant data. Record any
abnormalities in the remarks column of the protocol.
21. Submit all records to Electrical Maintenance Engineer for review.
22. Update the data in the computerized maintenance management
system.
23. Close the Work Order.

9 TESTING PROCEDURE:

9.1 Work Instructions:

To ensure that all the protections for safety of Power Transformer are in working
condition and confirming to the requirement of the standard and all parameters within
specified limit

9.2 General:
1. Reproduce the name plate details of the Power transformer in register.
2. Following tests are to be performed on Power transformer before arriving on
the decision for putting it in to service and deciding the connections for various
protective circuit.
3. All the safety precautions must be taken while carrying out each test.

9.3 Testing at site:

1. Ratio Test:
Apply 3φ, 415 V voltage to HV winding and measure voltage on LV winding
side, measure this voltage at working taps and record the same in format.
2. Magnetizing Current Test:
Apply 3φ, 415 V to HV winding and keep LV terminals open. Measure all
three- phase currents and record in format.
3. Magnetic Balance Test:
Apply 1φ voltage to HV line terminals between R phase and neutral and
measure voltages in the remaining phases. Repeat the same test in “Y” & “B”
phases. Record the readings in format.
4. Measurement Of Insulation Resistance:
Carryout insulation resistance measurement by megger between HV to LV,
between HV to Earth, between LV to Earth as per procedure and record in
format.
5. Short Circuit Test:
Apply 415 V 3φ supply to the HV terminals and keep LV side shorted measure.
Record the readings of HV voltage, current and LV current in format.

These trials are necessary to be performed in order to check their status and corrective
action should be taken immediately if any discrepancy is noticed. The positive and
correct operation of supervisory functions is necessary for healthy operation of
transformer.
The above trials are to be taken by manually rotating the winding and oil
temperature indicator meters.
9. Buchholz relay trials:-
1. Main tank Buchholz alarm.
2. Main tank Buchholz trip.
3. OLTC tank Buchholz alarm.
4. OLTC tank Buchholz trip
5. PRV of Main Tank & OLTC
These trials are to be taken using the test knob provided in the Buchholz relay. If
the test knob is not provided then by shorting the respective terminals in the
Buchholz relay terminal box.
MOG (Minimum Oil Gauge): The trial is to be taken by shorting the terminals in
the MOG.

10.Cooling supply change-over scheme:-

It should be checked by switching off the connected one supply. The
