Fashion is an intrinsic part of our lives; both are ever-evolving. The fashion industry has always
stimulated my curiosity. I am deeply fascinated by the creative and innovative world of fashion. Fashion
designing is one of the most exciting and demanding professions of today. I aspire to be a globally renowned
fashion designer with my own personal brand. I firmly believe that the Master of Business Administration
(Advanced) at Torrens University, Australia would equip me with the requisite skill set to progress towards my
career ambitions.

I, Manjot Kaur, was born on 13th August, 2000 in the city Kurali, Distt. Mohali, Punjab, India.
Academically, I have completed my Matriculation Examination, which is standard 10th from Punjab School
Education Board in the year 2016 securing 74.7%. Thereafter I completed my Senior Secondary Examination
which is standard 12th from Punjab School Education Board in the year 2018 securing 79.3%. I hail from
Punjab state which is renowned for agriculture as well the Ludhiana city is known for its biggest textile industry
not only in India but also in the world. I was fascinated by clothing, apparel and textile industry since most of my
kith and kin where involved with the industry. As stated earlier the sheer intricacies and complexity of clothing
industry piqued my interest since its unison creates a vibrant industry. To understand the science behind the
clothing, apparel, textile and fashion industry, I decided to pursue Bachelor of Science in Fashion Designing
from Panjab University which I successfully completed in 2021 securing 69.8%.

The entrepreneur in me wants to setup my own business which would require considerable business
and financial acumen to succeed. Hence in order to further my aspiration and also as a natural progression
academically, I decided to pursue Master of Business Administration. Now, after consultation with my parents,
teachers and friends, it became apparent that Master of Business Administration in India is taught from
examination point of view and imparts only theoretical knowledge without practical and vocational training. I
decided that for my better future education prospects, I shall study aboard. I started searching for options in
Australia and some other countries. I began by starting my IELTS training and consequently gave my
IELTS test on 9th October 2021. Where I scored 6.0 Bands Overall with Listening: 6.0, Reading: 6.0, Writing:
6.0, Speaking: 6.0.

Reason for doing 10 weeks English for Academic Purpose (EAP): With this 10weeks course I will learn
English quickly and increase my confidence. It will assist me to adjust in the entirely new learning methodology,
help me gain the knowledge related to assignments regarding how is it done and prepare myself for the
upcoming challenges that are sure to come when I face the talented students from around the world in my
master degree.

Demerits of studying Master of Business Administration in India?

The Indian Institute of Management Studies (IIMs) are among the premier institutes for business
administration. There are numerous other private institutes which offer myriad business administration courses
such as MBA, PGDM, BBA, BBM and MHA among all others. There are a total of 20 IIMs institute in India but
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Kolkata are among the most sort

Now there are millions of aspiring students who give a highly competitive and taxing entrance exams to
get admittance in top management institutes in India such as CAT, XAT, GMAT, CMAT, MAT, ATMA, NMAT,
SNAP, MAHCET, among others. In order to crack these entrance exams student undergo months of
preparations and training. Furthermore the IIMs across 20 institutes has only 10000 seats and their PGP courses
has only 5000 intake capability. The entrance exams are getting highly competitive and grueling every year and
with more than 100 students vying for one seat. The quality and standards of the private run management
institutes are deteriorating every year in the face of lack of infrastructure, lack of competent faculty, rigid and
outdated curriculum, among others. There are more than 5000 management and B-School in India, now greater
number of these institute are closing down each year due to poor quality of education and training, below par
infrastructure, poor teaching faculty and lack of on-campus placement. The management institutes in India fails
to provide training in emerging business perspectives and innovative modern business standards, very less
diversity among peers as compared to B-Schools abroad as majority of top MBAs in India are engineers, there is
not a good start-up culture compared to abroad, lack of practical learning because of the Indian Curriculum and
bad infrastructure, less experienced classrooms because many in India pursue MBA right after college without
any work experience, moreover MBAs in India is pursued for monetary reason of high paying jobs unlike
abroad. In view of these inadequacies of the private business schools in India and the impossibility of securing

Exploring options abroad:

In quest of an international degree, I began my research by exploring options in various countries and
after considerable deliberations, I narrowed down my options to USA, UK and Australia.
Most of the top multinational corporations and tech-company are USA based. USA is renowned for its
highest rated education institute in the world. As per the QS Global Ranking 2022, USA has more than 6
institutions in the top 10. The standard and quality of education imparted by USA institutes are unparalleled.
The degree awarded by these institutes are acknowledged and recognized all over the globe. There are many
colleges in USA providing MBA such as University of Michigan, New York University, Duke University,
University of California, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Emory University, Georgetown

Now, my research also yielded a very stark reality that in USA that after the fall of Trump government,
there is still resentment in the society in general which has led to a less congenial society. The George Floyd
incident and thousands of Trump supporters openly carrying arms at protest were expected to converge on US

incidents my parents do not want me to study in USA.

United Kingdom (UK) was the next destination in quest of my international master’s degree. Sixteen of

are research oriented and the research resources are aplenty. The research conducted by the UK universities

Many of the UK University and MBA institute have close industrial links which may help students to meet and

main intakes January / September as I missed for January, I was left with September intake whereas as in

After completing my Master of Business Administration, I shall be returning to India, where awaits my parents,
who are pillars of my strength and my source of inspiration. I want to start my clothing, apparel & textile trading

years in textile industry.
