 PURPOSE AND BENEFITS OF THE TREATMENT

The purpose of the cooling water treatment program is to maintain the cooling system
operation at its maximum efficiency in order that industrial production is not affected by
reduction of heat exchange efficiency.

The logic expected benefits of the treatment program are:

 Maintaining cooling efficiency as required by preventing scale and corrosion

problems.

 Operating the system at the optimum cycles of concentration in order to maintain

the water losses (blow down) within the agreed limits and minimize operating
cost.

 Control microbiological activity and maintain system cleanliness.

 Avoiding the high costs and damage associated with acid cleaning to remove scale
deposits and corrosion products on the heat exchange surfaces.

To design a cooling water chemical treatment program that economically meets

the above-mentioned objectives, it is very important to consider the operating
cycles of concentration. Selecting an operating cycle depends on:

 Make-up water quality,

 System specifications,
 Operating conditions and
 Environmental restrictions.
