What's lighter than a feather,
but can't be held for long?
Your breath!

All jokes aside, breathing is pretty incredible if

you stop and think about it, which we almost

NEVER do! We breathe all day long; even in our

sleep. We can control it at times, yet it happens

without us even trying. It’s totally necessary for

our survival, and can also be used to regulate our

mood and our stress levels.

Most of us have heard of breathing exercises,

and some of you might have also heard of

mindful breathing. Maybe you even understand

the benefits. Mindful breathing can benefit kids

just as much as adults. That’s why we created

these colorful Breathing Shapes! By making

breathing a visual processes, kids can see their

patterns, and make movements to help them keep

rhythm.

Print these sheets at home. You can hang them

on a wall in a calm down corner, keep a few in

the glove box in your car, or just leave them in a

stack where anyone in the family can pick and

choose which ones to use. OR, save paper and

just use them on your computer screen or phone.

"hold" path. Even if it's for just a second.
4. Speed up and slow down as you need to, but never stop!
5. Do six laps!

1. Hold your hand above the page, right over "start here."
2. When you're ready to breathe in, make the spiral motion
above the page with your hand while you breathe in
through your nose. Try to count to four in your mind as
you breathe in.
3. When you get to "hold," pause and count to seven in
your mind.
4. Then, reverse directions with your hand and breathe out
while you count to eight in your mind.

1. Try to make this heart pattern over your own heart.
2. Place your index (pointer) finger right below your heart.
3. While you breathe in, trace your finger up the right side
of your heart. Imagine the work your heart and lungs are
doing to give you life.
4. While you breathe out, trace your finger down the left
side of your heart.
5. Pause at the bottom and say "thank you" to your heart.

1. Put your index (pointer) finger where it says "Start here."
2. There are no "holds." Keep a continuous flow of breath,
in through your nose, out through your mouth, slowly.
3. Breathe in through the blue, and out through the green.
Breathe in through the red, and out through the yellow.
4. Do it again, imagining that the air is the color that you're
tracing. It goes in through your nose blue, and comes
out through your mouth green. In red, out yellow.

2. Slowly follow the waves with your index finger, flowing
like waves in the ocean.
