Answer

1. Verbal communication involves the use of spoken or written words to convey a message or meaning.
Non-verbal communication, on the other hand, refers to communication through non-word means
such as body language, gestures, facial expressions, touch, eye contact, vocal tones, etc. Non-verbal
communication supplements verbal messages.

2. Five channels of nonverbal communication are:

 Facial expressions: communicated through smiling, frowning, raising eyebrows etc.

 Gestures: communicated through nodding, pointing, waving etc.
 Eye contact: communicated through maintaining or avoiding eye contact
 Posture: communicated through upright, relaxed, tense postures
 Touch: communicated through shaking hands, hugging, patting on back for reassurance

3. In my opinion, non-verbal communication is more important than verbal messages. Though words
are used to convey the main idea, it is the non-verbal cues that determine the true intention, emotion
and attitude behind the message. Tone of voice, body language and facial expressions give important
context that help understand the real meaning beyond just the words. They play a big role in
establishing trust and connection in communication. Hence non-verbal channels are very important
and sometimes convey more than what is actually spoken.
