THE THINGS THAT HAVEN'T BEEN DONE BEFORE

- Edgar Guest
The things that haven’t been done before,
Those are the things to try; A few strike out without map or chart,
Columbus dreamed of an unknown shore Where never a man has been,
At the rim of the far-flung sky, From the beaten path they draw apart
And his heart was bold and his faith was To see what no man has seen.
strong
There are deeds they hunger alone to do;
As he ventured in dangers new,
Though battered and bruised and sore,
And he paid no heed to the jeering throng
They blaze the path for the many, who
Or the fears of the doubting crew.
Do nothing not done before.

The many will follow the beaten track

The things that haven’t been done before
With guideposts on the way.
Are the tasks worthwhile today;
They live and have lived for ages back
Are you one of the flock that follows, or
With a chart for every day.
Are you one that shall lead the way?
Someone has told them it’s safe to go
Are you one of the timid souls that quail
On the road he has traveled o’er,
At the jeers of a doubting crew,
And all that they ever strive to know
Or dare you, whether you win or fail,
Are the things that were known before.
Strike out for a goal that’s new?
