Chapter Three
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

3.1 General
It is a process of identifying, predicting, evaluating the impacts of any project,
policy, program, plan on the environment and human beings for their well being
and communicating them.

3.2 Type and category of project


The supposed project is meant to winden a conserved park. So, the type of
project involves road construction.

3.3 Objectives of the project


Due to the following aspects, this project is needed.

 Carrying capacity: It will increase the carrying capacity of the track.


 Time: After widening this track, there will be reduction in time.
 Mobility: The track will also increase he mobility and access.

3.4 Alternatives
The track before widening the road, follows the following path;

ABBOTABAD→→NATHIA GALI→→KUZA GALI→→AYUBIA→→SHORT OF


AYUBIA→→KHANSPUR→→AZAD KASHMIR
The alternative of this track will be

NATHIA GALI→→KUZA GALI→→AYUBIA→→KHANSPUR→→AZAD


KASHMIR

This alternate track will reduce the distance about 10 to 12 Km. so; it will be
beneficial for the transportation to cover the short distance.

3.4.1 Transportation of raw materials


The raw material to be used in road construction should be mostly from the local
area. To reduce the air pollution, it can be transported by

3.4.2 Availability of labor


The labor should be from that local area. It will enhance their income and also
reduce the cost on the project.

3.5 Project Site Location


GORA DACCA is termed as the old name for KHANS PUR. The height of this
mountainous area is about 8200 ft above sea level. The area is present at wet
temperate region. Wet temperate forest occurs there. There are seasonal
variations in this region. Rich reservoir ( GYMNOSPERM ) is present in this
forest. These types of Gymnosperms are not present at sub-tropical area.
AYUBIA National Park is a natural reserve. It should not be disturbed by the
people, it’s nature should be preserved. In this area, the precipeation is in the
form of snow in winter and rainfall in the Summer. The temperature is cool to
moderate. Ayubia National Park is located beyond the old presidency of Grand
Trunk Road. The total area is about 2300 acres. Pipeline Track is present at the
altitude of 8200 ft. dunga gali is situated on the slopes of Mukshpuri, 3 km from
Nathia Gali on the main Murree Road. Pipeline Track is also called as Mukshpuri
Track. The views of Mukshpuri peak, the river Jehlum and Ayubia National Park
are seen from this track.. it is 4km long track and it takes 40 to 45 min to cover
this track. There have been about 500 to 600 individuals living in Khanspur.
Other features of this area include, rich biodiversity, Pine forest, Springs,
Tunnels, Endangered species etc.

3.6 Land Use at the Project Site:


This land is especially reserved for the endangered species along with their
habitats.

3.7 PROJECT DISCRIPTION


The project deals with the proposed remolding( widening and strengthening of
pipeline track). It aimed at facilitating, fast and efficient traffic movement and
upon completion, it will envisaged to provide easy traveling condition. It will be
widened 100 ft from one side. The road will be of 2 lane from one side and 2 lane
from other side, with road shoulders.
