Let’s Explore and Discover

Unlocking of Difficulties

Schematic – relating to a scheme

(structured plan).

Circuit – complete path of an electric

current that includes the source of
Met
electric energy.

2
Electrical Layout – is a floor plan showing location of equipment and devices, and their
interconnection wiring. Philippine Electrical Code (PEC) Requirements shall show:
1. General
. Drawing Sheet Sizes
. Drawing Scale
. Graphic Scale
2. Plans and Specifications
(a) Locations and Sites Plans
(b) Legend or Symbols Refer to Appendix A- Electrical Symbols
(c) General Notes and/or Specifications.
(d) Electrical Layout
(e) Schedule of Loads. Schedule of load in tabulated form shall indicate:
(f) Design Analysis
(g) One Line Diagram. One-line diagram shall indicate Title Block and others
details

Power Plan shall show the following:

a. sizes and location of service entrance conductors, raceways, metering equipment,
main switchboard, layout of feeders and distribution panels or switches and their
sizes, types and ratings;
b. complete circuits of motors and other electrical equipment, their controlling
devices, their locations and ratings;
c. complete wiring of emergency power system, if any;
d. nature of processes/activities carried out in each room or area

TYPES OF WIRING DIAGRAM

Definition Image
1. Schematic Diagram
- A wiring illustration using standard
electrical symbols for wiring devices.
- It is a model of the elements of a
system using abstract and graphic
symbol rather than realistic pictures.

2. Single Line Diagram or One-Line Diagram

- Representation of an electrical
connections of electrical wiring
devices using a single line and with
slashes indicating the number of
conductors in a line.
- Used to denote the multiple power lines
such as in 3 phase system.

3
3. Pictorial Diagram
- A sketch of electrical print that shows
external appearance of each component
in a circuit.
- Much like a photograph of a wiring
installation and uses simple image of
parts.
- Shows more complete physical
appearance of a circuit or wiring
installation.

4. Actual Connection Diagram

- A sketch of the actual connections of
electrical devices in a circuit of wiring
installation.
- Like schematic diagram, it also uses
electrical symbols which is more
detailed because it shows the wire
termination and connections.

FLOW OF CURRENT IN A THREE-WAY SWITCH IN AN ACTUAL DIAGRAM

From the circuit breaker (source) flows current to Common Terminal 1 – S3WA to Runner
1 of S3WA to Runner 1 of S3WB (switch) then to Runner 2 of S3WA to Runner 2 of S3WB
then Common Terminal 2 (switch) to the black of load then will go back to the circuit
breaker to complete the circuit.
