MELCS : The learner describes characteristics, strengths, weaknesses, and kinds of quantitative research. (CS_RS12-Ia-c-1)
KINDS OF QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH:
1. Descriptive research design is a type of research design that aims to systematically obtain information to describe a phenomenon, situation, or population. 2. Correlational research design investigates relationships between two variables (or more) without the researcher controlling or manipulating any of them. It is applicable for the test of significant relationship, effect, influence, and impact of variables. 3. Comparative research aimed to test the significant difference of the two different variable under the independent variable. 4. Quasi-Experimental research design involves the test for significant difference between the pre-implementation and the post-implementation to determine the effectiveness of a tested intervention. 5. Experimental research design is applicable for Science Investigatory Project (SIP) where it seeks for the significant difference of the subject as compared between before and after the implementation.
HOW TO DETERMINE THE APPROPRIATE KINDS OF RESEARCH / RESEARCH
DESIGN? By observing the identified research problems (or “Statement of the Problem (SOP) / Research Questions), it will serve as a clue to classify the research design that is align and appropriate on the identified research problems. Example, if the research problems are… What is the extent of involvement in online games among students? What is the level of academic performance among students? Is there a significant effect of involvement in online games on the academic performance among the students? Is there a significant difference of the involvement in online games when the data compared based on the students’ gender? Then, the research designs are… Equivalent Kinds of Research or Research Problems Research Design What is the extent of involvement in DESCRIPTIVE DESIGN online games among students? What is the level of academic DESCRIPTIVE DESIGN performance among students? Is there a significant effect of involvement in online games on the CORRELATIONAL DESIGN academic performance among the students? Is there a significant difference of the involvement in online games when the COMPARATIVE DESIGN data compared based on the students’ gender? FINAL ANSWER :MIXED RESEARCH DESIGN
ACTIVITY 3: RESEARCH DESIGN
Directions: Based on the research problems identified from ACTIVITY 2, the students are going to identify the research design per problems. afterwards, they are going to determine the final answer of the research design for the entire problems.
