Phonics

Phonics is a method where children are taught how to read and write by learning how
letters correspond to sounds in a language. Through phonics reading, children learn to
make connections between sounds and letters.

The SIGHT WORD APPROACH

The “whole word” or “look-say” approach to teaching reading, also


known as the “sight word approach.” This approach is the opposite of
phonics, and words are memorized as a whole. Words that appear on
high-frequency word lists such as the popular Dolch Sight Word and
Fry's Instant Word lists.
