Year 10 Introduction to Psychology – Elective

2023 Request for Parental Consent

Dear Parent/Guardian

Year 10 students who are studying the Introduction to Psychology course will be exploring
how and why people behave the way they do. Students will also examine how our
thoughts and feelings impact our behaviour. Within the learning context, students will be
participating in the following class activities that will require your consent.

1. Students will be viewing some videos that are rated PG or MA15+. Teachers have
reviewed these videos and carefully selected them with the sole purpose of
demonstrating a psychological concept, encouraging class discussion and developing
a deeper understanding of issues raised.

2. Students will be asked to participate in class investigations related to specific

psychology topics being studied. These investigations follow the School Curriculum
and Standards Authority guidelines and are appropriate for this age group. Becoming a
participant in these investigations is voluntary and marks will not be deducted if your
child does not wish to participate. These investigations will be explained to the class
and what is expected of each participant is discussed prior to conducting the
investigation. These investigations are an essential part of the course and the class
needs the data to work with when writing their scientific reports. Whilst participation in
the investigations is voluntary, writing the investigation report is compulsory as it is a
marked assessment and part of course requirements.
