This document does not constitute an operational approval. If Local

SUBJECT: BRK LH FAULT AND BRK RH FAULT

MOMENTARILY DISPLAYED ON EICAS

REASON: To provide additional information regarding

BRK LH FAULT and BRK RH FAULT messages
momentarily displayed on EICAS.

DESCRIPTION:
Embraer has received reports of simultaneous BRK LH FAULT and
BRK RH FAULT messages displayed and cleared after a few seconds
without any flight crew intervention.
During the event, the following behavior of the braking system is
observed:
- Both BRK LH FAULT and BRK RH FAULT messages are
displayed,
- Outboard OR Inboard brake system becomes unavailable, and
- After one to 4 seconds the brakes resume working properly.
This behavior is characteristic of a Brake Control Module (BCM) reset.
The event may occur in any flight phase. During takeoff, the messages
BRK LH (RH) FAULT are inhibited from 80 knots until 400 ft AGL (K3).
Although the messages are suppressed, the BCM reset may still occur
during this phase.
When messages BRK LH FAULT and BRK RH FAULT are displayed,
the Autobrake system, if armed, automatically disarms.

OPERATIONS
LETTER

There are no reported cases of BCM 1 and BCM 2 reset at the same
time.
If desired, the crew can rearm the Autobrake system after the
messages are cleared.
The performance impacts of a BCM reset during a high energy RTO or
during landing run are within the safety margins considered in the
airplane design. Therefore no further considerations or actions are
necessary.
If messages persist for more than 4 seconds, follow the QRH
BRK LH(RH) FAULT Procedure. When applicable, messages may be
reset on ground using the associated Ground Reset.
Maintenance personnel may refer to SNL 170-32-0025 and
SNL 190-32-0023 (BRK LH FAULT and BRK RH FAULT messages
momentarily displayed on the EICAS).
Follow-up report O170-32-023 was created to keep operators informed
about the technical investigation updates and was included in the
monthly Flight Operations Follow-up report.
