The Involvement and Support of the Local Government Unit and the
Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to
Public Schools in Aurora West District
The Local Government Unit (LGU) and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management
Office (MDRRMO) have been steadfast in their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of
students in public schools within the district. Their involvement and support are evident in their initiatives
focusing on the repair and maintenance of school buildings and facilities, and the conduct of earthquake
drills.
The LGU, recognizing the importance of a safe learning environment, has been instrumental in
providing financial and logistical support for the repair and maintenance of school buildings and facilities.
The LGU has allocated funds specifically for the refurbishment of aging school infrastructure, ensuring that
they meet the safety standards set by the national government. Furthermore, the LGU has been proactive
in conducting regular inspections of the school buildings and facilities, identifying potential risks, and
addressing them promptly. This initiative has significantly contributed to the safety of the pupils, providing
them with a secure environment conducive to learning.

On the other hand, the MDRRMO has been actively involved in promoting disaster preparedness in
the schools, particularly through the conduct of regular earthquake drills. The MDRRMO, in collaboration
with school administrators, has developed comprehensive guidelines and protocols for these drills. By
conducting training sessions for school staff, they have ensured that the drills are executed effectively,
providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary for their safety during such events.

The drills were conducted successfully across all public schools in the Aurora West District. The
students, along with the staff, participated actively and responded well to the instructions. The MDRRMO
commended the schools for their cooperation and active participation.

Post the drills, the MDRRMO conducted

an evaluation meeting with the school administrators to discuss the effectiveness of the drills and to plan
for any necessary improvements in the future. The office also pledged to continue its support in ensuring
the safety and preparedness of the schools against potential disasters.

The LGU and the MDRRMO's involvement and support in the public schools of the Aurora West
District have been instrumental in ensuring the safety of the pupils. The LGU's initiative in maintaining the
structural integrity of school buildings and facilities, coupled with the MDRRMO's efforts in promoting
earthquake preparedness, has created a secure and resilient learning environment for the students.
Their continuous effort to educate and train the younger generation on disaster response is a
commendable initiative towards building a resilient community.
