EyeSuite license activations and trial periods explained.

EyeSuite has two different items which can be activated by a license code.

Fig. 4
NOTE!
The database server, this HAS TO BE activated and registered to the end user. Only the MariaDB
database server can be registered.

1) We recommend strongly to activate the database immediately after you have installed and tested EyeSuite. Untill
you have registered the database server you can use the 30 days trail license. However, be aware that after the
30 days EyeSuite cannot be used anymore untill the database server has been registered.
2) The EyeSuite options. EyeSuite has several perimetery and imaging related options. When you install EyeSuite
for the first time you will get 30 days trail of biometry, perimetery and imaging options (see Fig. 5). After the 30
days EyeSuite will still work fine, only the options activated by the trial will be disabled. If the customer wants to
keep using one of those options he/she can order them. The license can be activated via the license code in the
EyeSuite option manager this code is linked to the device or cypto box serial number.

Installation procedures
NOTE!
Local administrator rights are required to perform the installation. If in doubt, first contact the
computer / network administrator.

Preparation
NOTE!
Make sure your operating system is op to date with manufacturer drivers. Also make sure you use
the latest version of EyeSuite software. The version can be checked on https://www.haag-
streit.com/haag-streit-diagnostics/
Before installing the EyeSuite software it should be clarified what the customer requirements are. EyeSuite can be
installed in two ways:
• Standard installation
EyeSuite and database server are installed on the same PC.
• Network installation
EyeSuite and the database server/file storage are installed on the same or a different PC’s. The database
server/file storage is usually installed on a dedicated server PC to enhance performance and security. Additional
EyeSuite installations can be connected to the database server/file storage (sharing the same database). The
database server/file storage needs to be installed separate by selecting remote database in the EyeSuite installer
program. The remote database installation can be done with our tool and the file storage setup must be done
manually.
A checklist that helps to assess the installation requirements is available in chapter 9 in the addendum. It’s
recommended to forward this form to the customer IT department, and have it completed and returned prior to the
installation.

Standalone new installation

For non-networked single use system, limited to one EyeSuite application on the same PC. Start the installation
wizard of EyeSuite:

Fig. 6
The installation package will be extracted. This may take from a few seconds to approximately one minute. If needed,
you can change the installer's language.

Explanation of options:
Local database (MariaDB 10.11.2 will be installed), not suitable for networking.
For a standard stand alone installation select Local database to install the MariaDB Database server locally.
• In case of a fresh installation this will install MariaDB 10.11.2 on the computer.
• In case of an update this will remove the currently used database server installation and will (re-)install MariaDB
10.11.2. The uninstall of the previous database can’t be prevented. The new database will NOT allow remote
connections.
→ Use this on standalone PC were EyeSuite did install the database server (in most cases this is the prefered
option)
Remote database (no local database server will be installed), suitable for networking so connection multiple EyeSuite
applications. Also suitable for full control over local database. Usefull in case multiple database needs to be created
or in demo situations. See chapter 3.3. for instructions.
This option will remove the existing EyeSuite installed database server from the computer were EyeSuite is
installed. No new database instance will be installed. If the database server was installed manually (remote
database) then this database will not be touched by the installer.
→ Use this if you have a remote database server or a manually installed database server on the same PC as the

Server/Client installation
If the data needs to be accessible from multiple PC’s or will be used by multiple PCs in the future, it is required to
perform a server/client installation. This requires a network connection between the database server (hosting the
shared database) and File Storage share and the EyeSuite client installations.
WARNING!
From EyeSuite i9.10 raw biometry data is stored in the filesystem like imaging. Do not forget to
setup a shared folder to store the raw biometry data.

NOTE!
For better performance and security on server/client installations we strongly recommend installing
the database server on dedicated server hardware.

WARNING!
If the software is installed on a PC connected to a customer network make sure to apply appropriate
safety measures, such as Antivirus and Firewall protection.

WARNING!
Network installations should only be performed by network administrators and experienced
computer users. Network installations require full administrator access rights.

WARNING!
Hazardous situations may arise if the network cannot provide the required characteristics.

3.3.1. MariaDB installation and setup using the AutoMariaDB_Install_and_Setup_i914 tool.

Download the AutoMariaDB_Install_and_Setup_i9.14.zip file from our website or find it in our service CD. Unzip the
file to a folder (recommended to put this on a USB memory stick for future use). Please read the readme.txt for the
latest information. You can also use this download link https://bit.ly/40ZTNYW

Fig. 15
Double click on the 02_MariaDB_Install_and_Setup.bat file to install and setup the database server. This tool
requires that Windows will elevate, and it will ask confirmation to perform the installation. Click Yes to start the tool.
The setup consists of 3 steps. After each step you will get a message if it was successful. Press any key to go to the
next step. At the last step the tool will check if all was performed successful and the database with user setup is

The MariaDB database is now ready for EyeSuite access, using the MariaDB servers IP address, port 3307 and
“octosoft” as database, username and password. Any EyeSuite installation can be connected to a shared EyeSuite
database at any time. Make sure all EyeSuite systems connecting to one database sever have the same version.

NOTE!
For better performance and security on server/client installations we strongly recommend installing
the database server on dedicated server hardware.

To connect EyeSuite to a shared database, perform the installation of EyeSuite as described in chapter 3.2.
Do not install the database server since it is already installed using the previous chapters. Choose: Remote database
(no local database will be installed) during the installation of EyeSuite.

If database names, usernames and/or password needs to be changed we recommend using the 3rd party HeidiSQL
database management tool: https://www.heidisql.com/
3.3.2. EyeSuite without database server, setup remote database connection
If EyeSuite has been installed without the database server, it will show configuration window when starting the
EyeSuite for the first time. This will allow EyeSuite to connect to the shared database.

Fig. 17
Enter the connection parameters as defined on the database server to connect:

3.3.3. EyeSuite Imaging and Biometry, shared filesystem folder setup

NOTE!
From EyeSuite i9.10 raw biometry data is stored in the filesystem like imaging. Do not forget to
setup a shared folder to store the raw biometry and imaging data.

For EyeSuite Imaging systems (IM 600/900, IM910, CM 900, BX-900, FM300) and Biometry an additional
configuration is necessary to have access to the Imaging pictures and raw Biometry data from all connected
instances. This as the pictures, videos and raw Biometry data is not stored in the database itself, but on the file
system of local PC or the server. Therefore, it is required to share a folder to all EyeSuite instances in the network.

3.3.3.1. Share folder for EyeSuite Imaging and Biometry

Following is a generic example of how to share a folder in Windows. For detailed information please refer to the help
instructions from Microsoft (e.g. Internet).

© HAAG-STREIT AG, 3098 Koeniz, Switzerland – HS-Doc. No. 101500.7220060.03000 – Edition 30.00 / 2023 -12 17

Define and/or create common location/folder only to be used for the image and raw biometry files of EyeSuite (e.g.
\\Server\EyeSuiteFileStorage\). If a dedicated server is used for the database, it’s recommended to use this PC for
the file storage folder as well. Right-click the folder you want to share, select Give access to, and then click
Specific people.

Fig. 21
In the File Sharing wizard, select the user that will be allowed to access the folder and define the permission level
read/write. Check from Windows Explorer is the EyeSuite clients have full access to the shared folder.

Fig. 22
After the folder has been shared in the network, the location of this folder needs to be configured for all EyeSuite
workstations that needs access the Imaging pictures, videos, and raw biometry data.
Open EyeSuite and go to Tools > Preferences > General > File System.

Fig. 23
Define the location of the Imaging and raw biometry data directory by clicking on the button … next to the path and
browse to the shared network path. Click OK to save the settings. Do not use drive mapping, use the complete path.

This setting is saved in the database, all EyeSuite clients who will connect to the shared database will automatically
use the shared file system path.

NOTE!
All EyeSuite clients need to have FULL ACCESS to this folder, else EyeSuite will NOT start

Contact Haag-Streit service (service.diagnostics@haag-streit.com) for instructions and support for setting up an
encrypted connection between the EyeSuite client and the database server.

Terminal server/Citrix installation

It is possible to install EyeSuite on a terminal/Citrix server to allow simultaneous remote access from network clients,
which do not require a local EyeSuite installation.
NOTE!
Do not use the EyeSuite software on a terminal/Citrix server to directly connect and control
instruments. To use an instrument only use a local version of EyeSuite and connect it to the same
shared EyeSuite database.
To run EyeSuite simultaneously on a terminal/Citrix server it is required to enable the multiple instance support. This
as per default only one EyeSuite instance can be run at the same time.
Perform the installation of EyeSuite on the terminal/Citrix server as described in chapter 3.2.
After the software has been installed, perform following steps:
Use either the existing shortcut in the start menu or create a new shortcut (e.g. EyeSuite Terminal Server) to the
file C:\Program Files\Haag-Streit\EyeSuite\EyeSuiteLauncher.exe
Open the Properties of the shortcut (right mouse click on file and select Properties)
Add “-NoSingleInstanceCheck" at the end of the target path and confirm with OK

Fig. 24
The software can now be called from all terminals simultaneously. For individual EyeSuite settings you need to make
multiple EyeSuite installations into different folders.

Update procedures
WARNING!
The installer only supports direct upgrades back to EyeSuite i5.x.x.x If older or individual versions
like EyeSuite Perimetry v2.0.4 are installed, then you first need to manually upgrade to EyeSuite
version i5.x.x.x.

NOTE!
Local administrator rights are required to perform the update. If in doubt, first contact the computer /
network administrator.

Preparation
NOTE!
Make sure to use the latest version of EyeSuite software.
The version can be checked on http://www.haag-streit.com.

Before installing the EyeSuite software it should be clarified how the present current customer installation looks like:
• What EyeSuite version is currently in use?
• What EyeSuite version shall be installed?
• Has the database server been installed manually or by the EyeSuite installer?
• Is it a standalone or network installation?

Basically, the update always needs to be executed as follows:

Update the database server.
Update the EyeSuite Clients
WARNING!
Before updating any existing EyeSuite installation in a network, confirm that all instances of
EyeSuite in this network are closed and no client is accessing the shared database.
Because the new version may convert existing database tables, only updated EyeSuite versions will
be able to access the updated database. Therefore, all EyeSuite installations in a network,
connected to the same database, must be updated at once to the same version.

4.1.1. Database backup

IMPORTANT!
Before updating any existing EyeSuite installation it’s necessary to perform a full backup.

To perform a backup of the EyeSuite database, follow the instructions provided in chapter 1.
Updating EyeSuite with an EyeSuite installed local database server (no biometry)
If a local EyeSuite installation is also running the database server for remote clients, make sure to update this
installation first. Afterwards all connected EyeSuite installations needs to be updated as well.
NOTE!
With EyeSuite i9 and newer versions the undefined patient no longer exists for EyeSuite Imaging. If
any examination results shall be kept for i9.x.x.x or higher versions, it is required to move the
examination results from the undefined patient to a defined patient record prior to the update.

NOTE!
The update of an Imaging database can take quite a long time. Updating 150’000 pictures from i8
to i9.x.x.x it will take approximately 2 hours

NOTE!
If you update an EyeSuite installation which contains Perimetry data, and its version is lower than i9.x
then you need to convert and load the programs with the service tool before restoring the backup. See
the service tool short guide for instructions.

Update in case of existing biometry/Lenstar data and/or MySQL server.

WARNING!
In case of a networked system. From EyeSuite i9.10 raw /biometry data is stored in the filesystem
like imaging. Do not forget to setup a shared folder to store the raw biometry data.
If there is already biometry/Lenstar data measured with a pre i9.10.x version, then we recommend moving the raw
data from the database into the filesystem. Additional if the present database uses a MySQL server it is
recommended to migrate to a MariaDB server.
• In case the database size is less than 100 GB, or the database contains DICOM data. Then create a full backup,
uninstall EyeSuite and the database. Perform a new installation and restore the backup. Note this process will
take about 1 day and during the process EyeSuite cannot be used.
• In case of a larger database without DICOM data, or customer does not accept a long downtime use the
hotfolder migration option. For instructions check the 012_HotFolder_Lenstar data & MySQL to MariaDB
migration for EyeSuite i9_10_x_v2 newsletter.

Backup
Please instruct the customer/user that that he/she is responsible for its own data. It is essential to implement a
backup of the patient data. We recommend strongly to inform and assist the customer with the setup of patient data
backup. We recommend performing this backup on a shared folder on a server or different (external) storage drive
then where the present data is stored.
NOTE! It is especially important to perform regular backups. We recommend activating the EyeSuite
automatic incremental backup which is available from EyeSuite i8.x.x.x. See the EyeSuite instruction
for use (F1) for setup instructions.
Before every update it is essential to make a backup.
Below are the backup options available in the recent EyeSuite versions:

EyeSuite configuration backup

Local EyeSuite preferences are stored in separated .ini files. These files will remain on the system e.g. during an
update or even after an uninstallation of the EyeSuite software. However, in some cases it might be necessary to
backup these .ini files in order to prevent to loss all local EyeSuite preferences (e.g., in case of a PC exchange). To
backup the .ini files go to the respective folder: This location also contains the eyesuite.dbx file which stores the
encryption database connection details and in case of activated options a HSser.dat or HSusb.dat file. These contain
the activated licenses in relation to the device serial number or the Crypto box. Make a backup of these also.
Default location of ini files for Win10 and Win 11
C:\ProgramData\Haag-Streit\EyeSuite\
Backup the Perimetry tests and ini files by performing a manual copy of the hidden C:\ProgramData\Haag-

Troubleshooting Guidelines
The troubleshooting guidelines shall help to address certain issues that may occur during installation, configuration,
or maintenance of EyeSuite. The chapter will be continuously updated with the latest information. However please
note that this chapter does not describe all possible issues or error messages. For a list of all error messages please
refer to the Instructions for Use of EyeSuite.
In case the information does not solve the issue, please contact the Haag-Streit customer service.
WARNING!
Before starting with troubleshooting the system it is strongly recommended to create a database
backup.

Database connection issues

Database access
This chapter addresses possible database access issues in EyeSuite. In case EyeSuite is not able to access the
database, the following error message will be displayed.

Fig. 58
Check the network connection with the PC running the database server (can also be the local PC so IP address:
127.0.0.1). Click Start and type “cmd” to open the Command Line. Type ping <ip address PC running database
server>.

Fig. 59
If no reply is coming in, check the network connection (cables, adapters, IP configuration, etc.). If successful, check
the firewall configuration.
In the Control Panel open the Windows Firewall settings and go to Advanced Settings. Select Inbound Rules in
the right window, find the rule MariaDB 10.x.x (x64) check if it exists, and it is set to enabled and allowed.

Fig. 60
If that is present, then check if the database server is started/can be started/running. Open the services control panel
and check the status of the database server, the service name is for example “MariaDB_10_5_5”. The Description
should contain MariaDB and should be running and with startup type: automatic.

Normally the PC will start the database server when it is started. If this is not the case the click on start to try to start
the server. If the server is started, then EyeSuite will work. If not, then send the <pc name>.err file to Haag-Streit
support for analysis (perform a search function in windows explorer).
If the database server is not on the local PC, then check on the PC which run the database server if the database
server is started.
Database server and virus scanner issues
Please make sure to disable/exclude the virus scanner on the folders mentioned in chapter 1.1.1. A virus scanner
can reduce performance and even can cause database crashes/corruption.

EyeSuite Perimetry
Check the most common issues newsletter.

Issue during installation with “Repeated uninstall/Repair”.

If during the installation you repeatedly get the screen "Checking for old version" and you can only choose to "Repair"
or "Uninstall previous version", open the registry editor (in the command window, enter "regedit"). Then manually
remove the folder "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Haag-Streit/EyeSuite" in 32 bit Windows systems,
respectively "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/Haag-Streit/EyeSuite" for 64 bit systems, then
exit the registry editor and restart the EyeSuite installer.

Slow network connections

If the data access through the network appears to be slow (significantly slower than the local data access) then try
the following measures on the local PC:
• Deactivate the IPv6 network protocol.
• Make sure a DNS server is available in the TCP/IP settings. If not add 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1
• Deactivate any unused network cards, like Wireless LAN, Bluetooth PAN, or other disconnected adapters.

Checklist for the installation of Haag-Streit EyeSuite™ and ophthalmic instruments
Dear customer
Depending on the application environment it is required to closely work with the responsible IT department when
installing the Octopus 300/600/900, Lenstar, EyeStar, IM600/900, IM910, CM900 or other ophthalmic instruments
interfacing with EyeSuite. It’s even more essential if the software shall be installed in a network with multiple viewing
stations. Please forward this form to your IT department and have it completed and returned prior to the installation.
Preparations for the installation of EyeSuite
EyeSuite is a Windows based software and consists basically of two components: The MariaDB database software
and the Java application EyeSuite™. EyeSuite uses its own embedded Java environment. If they are installed on a
standalone PC (single computer with an ophthalmic instrument) both is installed on the same computer. If results
shall be analysed on other computers, then a network installation (server/client) must be setup. In that case,
EyeSuite must be installed on all computers where instruments are controlled. EyeSuite Viewing station can be
installed on all other computers or alternatively on a Windows Terminal Server/Citrix. The MariaDB server needs to
be installed only once – preferentially on a dedicated server. Also a shared folder needs to be setup with full access
for all EyeSuite clients.
