First, some clarifications about what happens
when fructose and glucose enter your body.

Etornam C. Tsyawo
Glucose and fructose are both sugars.
But they don’t have the same effect on you.

Etornam C. Tsyawo
Fructose

Etornam C. Tsyawo
When you eat a food containing fructose, it
goes into your liver. Then it goes through some
processes to change into fats.

I bet you don’t want the details of this process

Etornam C. Tsyawo
Where does this fat go? You ask.

It goes into “fat stores” like

the liver itself
fat cells (adipose tissues)

Etornam C. Tsyawo
Fun fact

Your body can use this fat when you’re not

eating. Or when you’re doing a lot of physical
activity.

Does this ring a bell?

Etornam C. Tsyawo
Note
Your body prefers to use glucose as its
source of energy. So if there’s glucose, be
rest assured the fat is going nowhere 🫠

Etornam C. Tsyawo
How about glucose?

Etornam C. Tsyawo
When you eat food containing glucose, it goes
straight to various cells to provide them energy
to continue their work.

Etornam C. Tsyawo
When you have glucose in your blood, it makes
your body release insulin to balance your blood
sugar levels.

Balance is a basic rule of nature

Etornam C. Tsyawo
And if there’s any extra glucose, your body will
change it into what is called glycogen, and store
it.

Etornam C. Tsyawo
If all glycogen stores are full, your body changes
any remaining glucose into fat.

Hope you’re still with me. Great!

Etornam C. Tsyawo
Then if your blood glucose falls, your liver will
convert the glycogen back into glucose for your
use. You don’t have to put in any extra effort.

Isn’t your body amazing?

Etornam C. Tsyawo
Now, there’s something
you should know.

Etornam C. Tsyawo
There’s a supposed to be a control system for
these how these two sugars change into their
final forms (energy, glycogen, fat).

Etornam C. Tsyawo
Glucose has it.
But fructose doesn’t have it 👀

Etornam C. Tsyawo
So the liver can process fructose into fat once
the fructose is in there.

Absolute disregard for any regulations, including the EU’s!

Etornam C. Tsyawo
Have you heard of non-alcoholic fatty liver
disease?

Just asking...

Etornam C. Tsyawo
Now, here are some sources of fructose

Fruits
Sucrose (table sugar)
High fructose corn syrup

And others

Etornam C. Tsyawo
Does that mean you should
stop taking fruits? 🥹

Etornam C. Tsyawo
Answer

The amount of fructose in fruits is moderate.

And it’s joined to other components like water,
vitamins, fiber, etc.

Nature is wise, my friend

Etornam C. Tsyawo
So,

Eat variety of fruits.

Eat fruits in moderation.
Eat fruits as part of a balanced diet.

Etornam C. Tsyawo
Essentially, the answer is...

NO

Don’t stop eating fruits.

Etornam C. Tsyawo
You: then how about highly processed foods?

Me: 🙃🥹🥵🙄😵🤐🫠
