One midnight Jaeha woke up with a faint feeling of a life’s distancing from the ground. A
few seconds more in the sense gave him a sight of the direction of that feeling. He looked
toward his companion on his right side and found himself a figure enchanted in the
moonlight. It looked to him as if the person and the moon had merged for a moment, and the
figure was slowly drifting off to the sky above. Jaeha blinked himself out of his imagination
to see Kija sleeping soundly beside him. The princess caught a cold, so he and Kija
volunteered to sleep outside to make room for her to rest. It was a daunting night it seemed,
as his sleep was robbed out of some strange feeling.
Jaeha raised one hand above trying to touch the imaginary strings attached to the White
Dragon beside him. The strings that attached all the Dragons together in Jaeha’s mind looked
somehow like a silver thread. Now the one linked to Kija turned dangerously faint.
“Hm?” Kija groaned. Unconsciously, Jaeha placed a hand on Kija’s chest, waking him up.
“At least let others sleep,” after throwing the hard cold rocks at Jaeha, the man slowly drifted
off to his dream again.
He laid back again with his eyes closed, forcing himself to sleep. But the strange feeling
wasn’t wiped out. It strode his mind over and over again, pressuring him to open his eyes
again only to meet a glance back. Kija’s sitting up, looking over Jaeha worriedly.
“Sorry, Kija,” he said softly after seeing the look in Kija’s eyes, “tomorrow we’ll go for a
long way, so please sleep.”
Jaeha raised his voice a bit to signal he returned to his goofy side safe and sound, but it didn’t
cease Kija’s concern. He caught the hesitance in the boy’s desire to speak something.
“Well, Kija dear, you looking at me like that and I won’t be able to sleep.”
“Did you… feel something about me?” Kija lowered his voice so much that it almost came
out as a whisper.
“So you can feel it too.” Jaeha stood up face to face with Kija. “Yes, it’s been bothering me
that your presence is quite weak right now.”
A hint of redness flushed over Kija’s face in response. He tugged the blanket to his chest,
saying nothing. They stayed silent for a few seconds before Kija finally spoke up.
“I have had that kind of feeling since I was a child. It was vague, but sometimes I feel like
I’m balancing on the branches and suddenly I fall,” he swallowed before continuing, “But I
believe that it is no big deal, tomorrow morning I will probably be fine again.”
“Don’t take that stuff so lightly like that,” Jaeha mumbled under his breath. He hated how
this man always tried his best to appear strong to others. It occurred to him that Kija’s
desperately pushing himself to the extreme to give the people he loved and cared about
peace. Not once did he witness Kija letting out a tired sigh. But his weariness didn’t pass
Jaeha’s quick instinct towards others.
Jaeha raised both of his arms towards Kija, squeezing him tightly. Thinking about some day
he would have to say goodbye to Kija making him want to devour any part of this man onto
himself. Hiding his face in Kija’s neck, he breathed in the warm, soft incense that resembled
some kind of indistinct flower. Even under these harsh conditions of travelling, you still take
proper care of yourself, huh?
Jaeha felt a light pull on his sleepwear and a new, sensory warmth touched all over his body,
followed by a small chuckle. Hearing Kija’s laugh made Jaeha lose up a little. Without
raising his head, he spoke softly.
And that is the end of how Jaeha and Kija waking up hugging each other for the rest of the
night!
