It may help to remember: It is about

to be persistent in your questions to
truly drill down to the specific problem
they’re having.
Even if you’re working with elite play-
ers, who tend to have a better under-
standing of what might be going on, you
still need to ask tons of questions. Some-
times, with elite athletes, being less spe-
cific can be a way of protecting their ego,
or it can be an emotional response that
with time can be overcome. Younger
players often have a harder time com-
municating what they are feeling as well,
which makes sense at their place in de-
velopment and self-awareness.
So, at every level, we have to help play-
ers become more specific in naming the
issue. This enables the coach/teaching
pro and student to identify what needs
to be the priority, right now, and for the
student to take more ownership of their
improvement.

notes. “Small businesses don’t have the

low in the dollar loss. A small business
has to really have a good, solid founda-

procedures to protect against any loss.”

ADMITTING THERE’S A PROBLEM

Many racquet sports retailers are
understandably reticent to discuss
their own experiences when it comes
to employee theft. Some owners have
complete faith in their employees
and cannot conceive of them stealing
anything. Other retailers are aware of
internal theft but don’t really have a
good handle on how to combat it.
One retailer pointed up another
aspect of internal theft that has proved
vexing: time theft—employees who take
advantage of the time clock. “When

SAPPHIRE SWING BIG WITH

CONFIDENCE

control while having an overall
sensation of being able to
swing bigger with confidence.
