4. In fig. 2, ∠ABC = ∠BCD = ∠CDE and Fig. 2

Prove that AB // ED.

5. A, B and C had dinner in a restaurant. The net amount for food is $285, plus a
service charge of 10%. A paid 3 times as much as C, and B paid half as much as A.
Find
(a) A’s share: B’s share: C’s share (Show your workings). (5 marks)
(b) The actual expenses of each one. (8 marks)

6. (a) Find the area of the parallelogram ABEC shown in fig. 3.1 in terms of a,
correct to 2 decimal places.

9. (a) Express the volume of the solid cylinder shown in fig. 6.1 in terms of the
base radius b and length a. (2 marks)
(b) Fig 6.2 shows a solid of uniform cross-section. The cross-section of the solid is a rectangle fitted
with 2 semi-circles of radius b at the top and bottom. The height of the rectangle is C and the
length of the solid is b. Find the volume of the solid in terms of a, b, c, and d. (6 marks)
(c) A crankshaft of an engine (fig. 6.3) is being made by assembling the solids in shape
of those being shown in fig. 6.1 and fig. 6.2.
(i) Express the total volume of the crankshaft in terms of a, b, c and d. (4 marks)
(ii) Given that a = 12cm, b = 2cm, c = 5cm and d = 3cm, calculate the total volume of the
crankshaft in cm3, correct to 2 decimal places. (4 marks)
(iii) The crankshaft is made with cast iron. If the cost of cast iron is $4368 per m3,
find the total material cost for making this crankshaft. (4 marks)
