Homework 1:

The charts compare the percentages of online shopping sales in New York for retail sectors in two years
2003 and 2013.
It is clear from the pie charts that the percentage of film/music in online shopping experienced the most
significant change during the research period. Additionally, books and film/ music grew, while the figure
for travel and clothes were dramatic decrease.
In 2003, the proportion of travel consumed in online shopping was highest, at 36%, while the figure for
film/music was lower, at 21%. People were spending 24% on clothes in online shopping. At the same
time, only 19% for books.
In 2013, the percentage of film/music was increased significantly by 12% to 33%, became the highest in
the chart. Clothes were fell sharply and made up 16% of buying online. Meanwhile, people spending
money on books and travel were 22% and 16% respectively of the total online shopping.
Homework 2:
The line chart illustrates the changes in crime in Newport city centre which took place in
burglary, car theft and robbery areas between 2003 and 2012.
It is noticeable from the chart that the percentage of three different areas of crime all
increased during the research. Additionally, the proportion of robbery was by far the
lowest within nine years.
In 2003, the rate of burglary crime in the inner city was highest, at 3500, while the figure
for car theft was lower, at 2800. At the same time, the percentage of robbery whose theft
from the person made up approximately 650. In 2008, robbery witnessed a significant
decrease and reached the lowest point of less than 500 while the figure for car theft rose
gradually.
In 2012, the percentage of burglary crime in Newport fell dramatically by 2000 to 1400
while the figure for car theft was remained stable at 2800. Similarly, the proportion of
robbery was unchanged around 650 of the number of incidents.
