CHAPTER-1 INTRODUCTION

Today, a great number of NGOs are providing a variety of services

to interns. At starting I was having various options to enroll myself
in different areas like digital marketing, fund raiser, social worker
for various NGOs and MSMEs.
But I decided to work in a NGO rather than working in a company
because while working in a NGO we will come to know the real life
problems and what is the basic need of an individual in common.
It is something different to gain new experience. People from
different places and different countries join NGO, and they all share
love and passion for what they do. Meeting such kind of unique
people is good for a young intern. I thought that doing internship in
NGO would sharpens my professional skills, help in my personal
growth, help me to meet real people.
After deciding to work in an NGO I started to search for various NGO
available in Rajpura , as this is the nearest location to me. Below are
the names of the NGOs I searched for my internship.
Chhoti Shuruwat, Little Hope Foundation, Salute The Trees Trust
and Nanha Pryas.

Among all these I chose Nanha Pryas due to its work they are doing
for encouraging children at such a small age, the activities they are
doing for helping poor people and plantation drive and encouraging
women empowerment

Now a brief information about Nanha Pryas NGO and the areas in
which they are working from so many years: -

NANHA PRYAS NGO came into existence in Rajpura in

2016
Nanha Pryas reaches out to Punjab

It makes interventions in various areas like plantation drive,

yoga practices, waste management, compost pitting and much
more

Nanha Pryas is one of the best NGOs working with Paces

CHAPTER-2 INTRODUCTION TO COMPANY
2.1 NGO AND ITS IMPORTANCE

A non-governmental organization (NGO) is a non-profit group that

functions independently of any government. NGOs, sometimes
called civil society organizations, are established on community,
national and international levels to serve a social or political goal
such as humanitarian causes or the environment.
NGOs can accept donations from private individuals, for-profit
companies, charitable foundations, and governments, whether
local, state, federal, or even foreign. As non-profit entities, they
also can charge membership dues and sell goods and services.

There are a couple of different types of not-for-profits. Some

examples of not-for-profit organizations include:

 Social organizations

 Community organizations

 Social organizations strive to improve or cater to social causes.

These organizations may assist the homeless, provide free legal
services, or help veterans find work.

 Individuals establish community organizations to help with

causes around the community. Some causes that community
organizations might help with include cleaning up the
community, improving neighborhoods, and promoting
recycling locally.
Roles of NGO
The functions of NGO play a major role and have brought social change for
promotion and development of the society.

Social Safety-Valve Role

NGO plays a crucial role in organizing the public inconvenience and

becomes an advocate to the societal problems and needs. They play a
significant role in lending voice to the poor and needy.

Improve Government Performance

It is one of the functions of NGO to ensure that the government is

responsive and are solving the problems of the citizens thus making
the governments work accountable. NGO is also authorized to give
suggestions and encourage improvement and flexibility in the
government’s policymaking by giving their own research teams and
expertise.

The Service Role

The non-profit organization works as a mechanism through which

people worried about any social or economic difficulty which can
respond and lend their helping hands. NGO help in beneficial conflict
resolution and creates the environment of trust and confidence.
Building Community Participation

The non-profit organization proposes substitute perspective that

includes the capability to carry out a meaningful dialogue with
disadvantaged communities. Many NGOS are working to conserve
and encourage India’s diverse culture. They have different
communities all across the world who is participating to serve the
same interest of NGO.

Women Empowerment

The performance of major functions of NGO has come a long way in

working for women empowerment. Few of the examples like fighting
against sati, dowry, cruelty, other social menaces to educating
women, lowering the female feticide rate, employment to female, etc.

It is still giving their best in removing gender inequality. There are

many foundations working for such causes like Sewa, Agran
foundation, Eklavya, and Environmental Action Group etc.

Sustainable Development

This area needs the maximum attention because nobody is

compromising their present needs and is destroying natural resources
to achieve their selfish goals.

COMPOST PITTING

Today, I stand before you as an intern at this incredible NGO name"NANHA

PRAYAAS", where I have had the privilege of working on a transformative project:
compost pitting. Over the past six weeks, I have witnessed the power of sustainable
practices and their potential to make a lasting impact on our environment. It is with
great enthusiasm and gratitude that I share my experience and insights with all of you.
Composting is a natural process that converts organic waste into nutrient-rich soil,
benefiting both the environment and agriculture. By diverting organic waste from
landfills, we not only reduce methane emissions but also promote a circular economy
that supports the growth of healthy plants and reduces the need for chemical
fertilizers
During my internship, I had the opportunity to actively engage in the process of
compost pitting. I witnessed firsthand the transformation of food scraps, garden
waste, and other organic materials into a dark, crumbly substance teeming with life.
This process not only demonstrated the potential of waste as a valuable resource but
also highlighted the interconnectedness of all living organisms.

YOGA PRACTISES

During my internship, I was involved in a wide range of activities related to yoga

practices. Some of the key tasks and responsibilities included:

by the NGO. This involved logistical arrangements, participant registration, and
ensuring smooth execution of the events.

awareness about yoga practices.

dedicated to promoting sustainable practices and addressing environmental issues,
with a particular focus on waste management. It collaborates with local communities,
government bodies, and other stakeholders to implement effective waste management
strategies
I actively participated in waste audits conducted in different locations to assess the
types and quantities of waste generated. This involved sorting and categorizing waste,
recording data, and analyzing the results. These audits helped identify areas for
improvement and served as a baseline for future waste management initiatives.
PLANTATION DRIVE

The plantation drive project aimed to raise awareness about the importance of trees,
restore green spaces, and contribute to environmental conservation. The initiative

LEADERSHIP SKILLS

When you work with a team in an NGO, you are often given a chance
to lead a group of people. Managing a group might sound easy but it's
not. There are decisions you need to take in everyone's favor and
which are right for everyone.
At the same time, you need to consider everyone's opinion without
hurting their sentiments. For taking care of these things altogether,
you need to be unbiased and fair, which is a skill that could be
precious to possess.
INTERACTIVE SKILLS

Working in a team demands you to talk with different types of people

with varied natures and behaviors. Dealing with everyone with
humbleness and not losing your temper is a quality which can only be
learned by spending time with people who are working together. This
internship develops great interactive skills which could be fruitful in
all walks of life.

WORKING WITH AN UNSELFISH ATTITUDE

NGOs are basically non-profit organizations whose main focus is

providing service to the society instead of making money. As this
internship is not paid, which helps us to develop a sense of
unselfishness. Once this quality is developed, you won't always work
for profit but for a purpose which is beneficial for others.

MAKES YOU MORE RESPONSIBLE

Having workload and doing it, even after knowing you won't get too
much in return, develops a sense of responsibility. While going
through this, you keep acquiring the quality of completing tasks
without looking for profit in everything.
BROADENS YOUR THINKING

When you work for your own self, you’re thinking spectrum gets
limited and never do you think beyond the enclosure of your life
and gains. But, working in an NGO force you to think for people.
This widens your thinking spectrum so that in future when you
work, you think of the group or on a company level, which
ultimately enhances your credibility and reputation.
These were all the skills that I learnt and were also taught in our class
and are very helpful to be a successful manager or boss in the future.
VALUES GENERATED

There are lot of values we learn while working in an NGO as it is a

type of job in which we are not being paid but still we work there and
do something for the betterment of the society which makes us a good
human being. So, following are the values we generated while
working in NGO.

SERVICE BEYOND SELF:

The very purpose of NGOs is to serve others. Integrating this value
in the overall working of the NGO not only makes them socially
acceptable, but it also makes them more responsive to take up
societal issues. It is essential for NGOs to responsibly take up
societal issues and serve the community.

RESPONSIBILITY:
NGOs are entrusted with a responsibility towards the public and
society.so we also learnt a sense of responsibility while working for
an NGO. As an NGO, you have to take ownership of all activities
undertaken by you.

TRUTHFULLNES:
An NGO should be truthful in its dealings with its donors, project
beneficiaries, staff, members, partner organizations, government, and
the general public. An NGO under no circumstance should be
involved in money laundering, bribery, corruption, financial
improprieties or illegalities which also develops a feeling of
truthfulness in us also.
EXPERIENCE LEARNT INCLUDING SKILLS OBTAINED

If you're hunting the real Satisfaction in Life then I would suggest you to go,
break the ice
And start working with an NGO. Sometimes you want to help the
needy but you couldn't find the right platform or say trusted
platform but trust me you'll get more than enough. Not only you
help people but also you yourself learn a lot through this
experience and that experience is helpful throughout your life. We
get a lot of experience and skills while working for an NGO

Societal contribution
If you actively work/volunteer will help you to make a positive
contribution in the growth and development of the society. You can
work for the cause you are most passionate about.

CV
The skills that you gained can form a significant part of your CV. You
can impress your employer with your polished skills. This experience
will also make your application stand out amongst your peers.
Broader horizon
Working in an NGO will broaden your perspective. It will cause an
impact on the way you pursue your objectives and make decisions.

Professional development
Joining an NGO is like an investment in your future. You will
develop professional skills to meet the demands of the role and of
the organization.

Leadership skills
As a part of a team, you will not only gain leadership skills, you will
get a chance to employ them too. Everything depends on how well
you learn to motivate people and how you cope up with pressure.

Making life better

Your work will be making a significant contribution towards a better
tomorrow. It will bring a sense of job satisfaction and self-motivation
to do more.
CHAPTER- 4 RECOMMENDATION AND CONCLUSION

The world that we see from outside seems very colorful and lustrous
to us and we have always been unaware or rather ungrateful of the
blessings that we always have. But after I completed this internship, I
realized that people are facing a bigger problem from us and are
satisfying their needs in such a low income. from this internship I
learnt that always be grateful for what you have because some people
even don’t have money to eat and happiness in life. So rather
complaining about what you don’t have, be thankful for what you
have.
When I closely and deeply look to things that I had been unaware of,
for all these years, I have realized that there is a lot of more to life
than just getting good degrees and earning good digits. I learnt that
the practical experience is important for being successful in life and
through practical experience opinions gets strong and we get a strong
mindset and a broader view of all the things and get a better
understanding of what is right and not right.
I may be a successful manager in the future, but what is more
important is if I can be a good person or not and this depends on how
we contribute in the welfare of persons that surround them. So, if we
can understand the pains and problems of others only then we will be
successful in life.

THEORITICAL PART LEARNT

The welfare state theories take it for a given that the provision of state
provided welfare services displaces NGO work. The welfare state
theory ignores the NGO sector and its history in both policy issues
and development debates completely.
Many NGOs, , encompass both types at once, though there's often one
area they are more focused on. Areas of work can include waste
management, plantation drive ,yoga campaigns , compost pit,
women's rights, children's rights, economic development,
environmental advocacy, disaster preparation, and more
