Pythagoras´ Theorem

1. Find the value of 𝑥 in each of the following figures.

a) b) c)

d) e) f)

2. Determine which of the following triangles are right triangles.

a) b) c)

3. Decide which of the following measurements represent the sides of a triangle.

a) b) c)
4. Solve the following problems:

i) Javier and Ramon work installing cellular antennas on

buildings. Javier is in building 𝐴 and Ramon is in building 𝐵,
which is taller than building 𝐴. If the two buildings are 20𝑚
apart and the distance between Javier and Ramon is 29𝑚,
how many meters taller is building 𝐵 than building 𝐴?

ii) On a softball field the distance between consecutive bases is

65 𝑓𝑡. The pitcher's plate is located in a straight line between
second base and home plate 50 𝑓𝑡 from home plate. Determine the
distance between second base and the pitcher.

iii) When a painter's ladder is opened, an isosceles triangle is formed, the distance between the
bases is 1 𝑚 and the equal sides measure 1. 4 𝑚. Determine the height of the ladder.
iv) You use four stakes and string to mark the foundation of a
house. You want to make sure the foundation is rectangular. The
measurements of the rectangle should be 30 𝑓𝑡 by 72 𝑓𝑡, if you
measure one of the diagonals, and it measures 78 𝑓𝑡, explain how
with this measurement you can be sure that it is a rectangle.

v) On the diameter of a circle, we draw an isosceles right triangle with a vertex on the circle. If the
legs of the triangle measure 8 cm. Compute the perimeter of the circle, consider π = π , for
example, the perimeter can be 12π.

vi) Austin, San Antonio and Victoria make a right triangle on a map with the distance from Austin
to Victoria being the hypotenuse. The distance from Austin to San Antonio is 74 miles, and the
distance from San Antonio to Victoria is about 102 miles. Find the approximate distance from
Austin to Victoria.
