3. The diagram below shows apparatus used in an experiment to measure
the volume of oxygen given off when 50 cm3 of 0.200 moldm-3
hydrogen peroxide decomposes in the presence of manganese (IV)
oxide.

The volume of gas collected was measured at 5 seconds intervals. The

diagrams below show parts of the syringe for the 5s, 15s, 20s and 30s
readings.

(a) Use the diagrams to complete the table.

Time/s 0 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45
Volume of 0 27 48 50 50 50
oxygen/cm3
[4]

(b) Plot these results on the grid below. [2]

(c) Using your graph find the volume of gas collected after 23 s.

Volume _____________________________ [1]

(d) On the same axis, sketch a second curve to show the results you
would expect if the experiment was repeated with the same
quantities of material but with hydrogen peroxide of
concentration 0.100 moldm-3. Label this “Exp. 2”. [2]

4. A student determined the value of n in the formula of ethanedioic acid

crystals, H2C2O4. nH2O by titration with 0.16 moldm-3 sodium
hydroxide labeled A.

A sample of H2C2O4. nH2O crystals was added to a pre-weighed

container which was then reweighed.

mass of container plus H2C2O4. nH2O = 15.791 g

25 cm3 of solution of B was transferred into a conical flask. Two

drops of phenolphthalein indicator were added to B. aqueous sodium
hydroxide, solution A was run in from a burette until the end point
was reached.
