Valco Pool Committee

with some exciting news
The City of Glasgow is thrilled to
announce a significant boost to the Valco
Pool Committee’s Project. The Land and
Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) has
awarded $324,471 to the City, propelling
the Valco Pool Committee closer to their
fundraising goal. This additional grant
from the LWCF brings the Pool Committee
approximately $220,000 away from having
the bathhouse fully funded. Since 2018,
the Valco Pool Committee has raised
$3,979,665.
With this generous grant, enough has
been fund-raised to initiate the bidding
process. However, to award a bid, the full

amount will need to be raised. Mayor
Karst has added an agenda item for the
City Council meeting on July 15 to vote on
starting the bidding process.
“This is a tremendous step forward
for our community,” said Maggan Walstad,
Valco Pool Committee President. “The
bathhouse is an essential part of our
project, and we are hopeful that this final
fundraising push will enable the bathhouse
to be ready at the same time the pool,
which will be finished May 31, 2025. We
encourage everyone who has considered
donating to the project to do so now. Every
contribution helps us get one step closer to
making the bathhouse a reality.”
Competing at the Scobey Swim Meet in Scobey this past Friday
and Saturday, Glssgow’s Abigail Kulczyk, age 17, broke a POOL
RECORD in the Girls 15-19 200 Meter Individual Medley with a time
of 2:57.96, crushing the old record set in 2016 at 3:01.68. She is
pictured with Thunder Coach Ethan. few other big feats included:
• Ducan Markle (4) swam the Boys 8 and Under 50 Meter Freestyle
without touching the lane ropes, his first time ever in a meet, and
beating his old time by over 2 minutes!
• Wade Fuhrman (12) won the Boys 11-12 50 meter back stroke
with a time of 43.18 and dropping 3.77 seconds!
• Haleigh Huntsman (14) won the Girls 13-14 100 Meter Back stroke
with a time of 1:29.41 with an improvement of 4.28 seconds!
Just think when the Thunder has a pool again.... The Valco Pool
Committee has been working tirelessly to bring this project to fruition
since 2018, and community support has been vital. Now, more than
ever, your donations can make a difference.

Tech in Laramie Wy. and accomplished his
dream of becoming a diesel mechanic. He
worked in Williston N.D. for many years. In
2007 his older brother, whom he idolized, passed
away and life was never the same. In recent years
Kyle lived and worked in the Glasgow area until
his passing.
He was preceded in death by his paternal
grandparents Mary and Halles Waller, his
maternal grandparents Noel and Bertha
Sundheim, his brother Russ and brother-in-law
Daniel Fettig. -

Opheim Happenings
Vacation Bible School was held at the Opheim
Community Church on Wednesday, Thursday and
Friday, July 10th, 11th and 12th. Krystal and Tyler
Dickerson and Krystal’s mother Sherrie Basdett
were the teachers. The theme was “I Am A Friend
of God.” The children have learned about ordinary
men who were friends with the King of the Universe!
It gave them inspiration for their “everyday” lives.
Wrapping up Bible School was some fun in the sun
with a water slide. Pictured left to right are Krystal
and Tyler Dickerson with the children, Elizabeth (in
Tyler’s arms), Newton Jr., Cayson, Ezra, Kamëra,
Orin, Rebie, Siale, Roman, Alexander, Baby Bailey
(in front), Sheila, Howard, Maven, Nels, Hadassah,
and Kaiden and then my Mom is Sherrie Bassett.

The Bible phrase “Friend of God” is found in James
2:23, “And the Scripture was fulfilled that says,
“Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as
righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God.”
