Day 1

1 Determine all functions f : N → N such that f (n) + f (n + 1) = f (n + 2)f (n + 3) − 2010,

∀n ∈ N.

2 Given n > 3, let X be the set{1, 2, .., 2n} . K is a set of pairs (x, y) with x,y distinct elements
of X, satisfying the following conditions: 1)If (x, y) is in K, then (y, x) is not in K. 2)Every
element x in X participates in at most 19 pairs in K. Prove thatX can be divided into 5
non-empty, disjoint subsets X1 , X2 , X3 , X4 , X5 such that for each 1 ≤ i ≤ 5 , the number of
pairs (x, y) in K with x, y both in Xi , is at most 3n.

3 LetABC be an acute triangle with orthocentre H. The external bisector of angle ∠CHB
intersects AB and AC at D and E respectively. The internal bisector of ∠CAB intersects the
circumcircle of triangle angle ADE again at K. Show that HK passes through the midpoint
of BC

Day 2

4 Let ABC be a triangle. For a point P of the plane, let A0 be the foot of the perpendicular
dropped from P to BC.
Points B 0 and C 0 are defi
ned analogously. Find the locus of points P in the plane such that
P A.P A0 = P B.P B 0 = P C.P C 0

5 A tree is a graph such that between any two vertices, there is a unique path made up of edges
of the graph. A tree is given such that: 1)The set of vertices is the integer lattice Z2 2)If
there is an edge between vertices x and y then the Euclidean distance between x and y is at
most 2014. Prove that there are two lattice points, distance 1 apart, such that the length of
the path in the tree which connects them (i.e. the sum of the Euclidean lengths of its edges)
is at least 102014 .

6 Consider an odd prime p satisfying the condition: 2h ≡
6 1 for all 0¡h¡p-1 and an even number
p
a with 2 < a < p . Consider the sequence (an )n≥0 of positive integers de
ned by:
a0 = 0, an+1 = p − bn (n ≥ 0)
where bn is the greatest positive odd divisor of an . Prove that the sequence an is periodic,
and
