Personal statement

I am a self-funded exchange visiting- scholar from China. At present time, I am

studying and researching early childhood special education in the St. Cloud State
University of Minnesota. My instructor is Dr. Kathryn Johnson, who is the guide for me
to enter the field of special education. At that time, I chose to study special education in
the United States based on my desire to care for the disadvantaged people in society.
Then, we found out my 2-year-old son was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, a
change that is like a shadow. It made me determined to assimilate a lifelong career in
special education. I want to better accompany and serve these children to grow and
adapt to the society around them. They need love and professional help more; I must
have the ability to give this kind of service. My son from the special education experts'
appraisal and evaluation to the training plan and implementation, to the child into the
pre-school education stage, this along the way, I really felt the change brought before
my child and the tremendous progress they have made, I greatly respect the teachers in
special education, to let my child timely receive formal training in the correct system and
education.
At the same time as a parent, I have also learned a lot of knowledge and skills to
guide my children. Meanwhile, I have a deeper understanding and research on the
special education industry in the United States, and I am committed to this cause.
During the two years as a visiting-scholar, I published several papers based on my
study and field investigation, such as “A Glimpses of Special Education for American
Children under the Epidemic”, “Language Development in Bilingual Environment”, and
“Identification and Training of Autistic Children in the United States. I admire the
teachers for their care, encouragement and patience. It is because of what I have
experienced that I am determined to transform myself from a parent to a tutor for more
children. In order to achieve this transformation, I must go through systematic study to
acquire professional knowledge and improve my academic ability, so as to obtain a
degree and professional certificate. I am willing to obtain it through serious study, which
is the purpose of my decision to apply for the master's degree in pre-school special
education.
I believe that based on my previous two years of contact and study in the field of
preschool special education, I am very interested and capable in maintaining my
passion and persistent commitment to this career. Moreover, my own son also has to
undergo special education for a long time. As a mother, I have more responsibility and
love to help my son grow up with the professional knowledge, skills and life experience I
have learned. I believe that through my unremitting efforts and serious study, I will
complete my goals smoothly. At the same time, I will give play to my advantages in the
field of special education, better serve the society and help more children and families.
Therefore, I sincerely submit my application for admission and hope that the leaders
and teachers of the school can consider and meet my learning desire. I am sincerely
grateful to the school and teachers and all their help!
