Mounting & Safety
General Recommendations

The installation has to be made strictly following the below points:

 Riggers to wear personal protections (safety Belt, Helmet, Gloves and Safety
Glasses)
 Keep bottom area of the installation clean and free and put isolating barricades
& caution boards to warn people crossing the area near the installation.
 Proceed with the installation from the Top to the Bottom
 All Dipoles to be installed on the same side of the pipe
 Use Grease on the Brackets Threads
 Strictly follow the label of the cables (#1 at top , #6 at bottom)
 A small quantity of silicone grease should be put on the connector’s gaskets
 Take care not to exceed the minimum bending radius of the branching cables

 Do not over-tighten the mounting bracket clamps to avoid deformation of the
dipole, power divider or branching cables resulting into high Reflections/
VSWR.
 The whole system has to be pressurized at a 40 ÷ 80 m bar pressure.
 Never stay within the section of the tower where the dipoles have been instal-
led when the RF is set at full power. The Power Splitter optimization must be
made at the lowest possible Power level.

Technical Description
And Overview

The supplied antenna system is composed by 6 Bays of Cir- Branching

cular Polarized Dipoles fed by a main 6 ways Power Splitter
through 6 nos. of air dielectric 7/8" branching cables
Cable
terminated with 7/8" EIA connectors at each end.

The System is completely pressurizable (including the di-

poles) and a built—in Fine Matching section is provided in the
Main Power Splitter to allow on—site VSWR optimization. CP FM Dipole

The Dipoles and the Main Power Splitter are both supplied
with mounting brackets to fit the already installed 100 mm
side mounted pipe.
The outer structure of the Dipoles is made of Stainless
Steel, the Power Splitter Body is made of painted Marine
Brass. While the internal lines of the Dipoles are made of
Silver plated Aluminum, the internal lines of Power Splitter
are made of Marine Brass.
All contact are silver plated and the spring contacts (i.e. bul-
lets) are all in Beryllium Copper or Phosphor Bronze. All in-
sulators are in virgin PTFE and the gasket are made of sili- Main 6 Ways
con rubber.
Power Splitter

The supplied branching Cables are Factory—Phased to allow

the requested Down Tilt (1 deg) as well as the null filling
(10%).

The System is designed for a continuous average power

rating of 40 kW input Power and it is virtually maintenance
free. Fine Tuning
Section

The whole system is adequately protected for heavy rain

and tropical humidity climate and against dust as well as
desert conditions and extreme temperature variations (as per
clause 2.2.8 of Tender specifications)

All components have been individually Factory tested for VSWR,

High Voltage, Pressurization etc. before shipment.

Fine Matcher Section Tuning Procedure

1. Switch the RF transmitter ON at the lowest possible output Power

2. Remove the covers A
3. Release the Nuts B
4. Smoothly operate in turn with the three threaded Stubs C by screwing or
unscrewing them, pursuing the better value of the reflected Power (SWR)
5. Do not Exceed the indicated range (5 ÷ 40 mm)
6. Once reached a suitable value, tight the Nuts B
7. Reposition the Covers A taking care that the O-Rings D are correctly positioned

Maintenance
The antenna system, due to the
heavy duty design and materials
quality, is almost maintenance
free.
The only point that could be kept
under oservation is the central
part of the external feeding line

This point should be kept free of

birds nest and dirt possibily
brought from the atmosphere.

Fault diagnostics


Normaly after a correct installation and commissioning the

system is supposed to run without problems, the fault dia-
gnostic is kept under control through the data which are avai-
lable from :

I. The Reflected RF level at the FM transmitter
II. The pressure level at the dehydrator

In case of one of the relevant alarms should turn on, the first
 inspection should be made through all the RF junctions i.e.

 1. Branching cables to Antenna inputs

2. Main Splitter outputs to Branching cables
 3. Main Feeder run to Main Splitter



