Sequential Alarm Recall Operation

Using the 82# command, the last alarm events stored in memory can be retrieved. The
alarm events are extracted from the reporting queue. As other events may be in the queue
(open/close, etc.) less than 100 alarm events may be recallable.

Lost Master Code?

Pressing the [1+3] key pair within 6 seconds of power-up will cause the program version
number to be displayed. Then press the # key to enter programming mode. If the # key is
not pressed, the control will reset to normal operation in a few seconds.

This sequence will work only from true power-up. Battery and AC power must be removed
then restored. This command is not available in communicator versions of the Z6 panel.

Clearing the Reporting Queue

Entering address 256 in program mode will reset the reporting queue. Events in the queue
that have not yet reported are cancelled. This does not affect the local alarm recall command
(82#). MicroCom can only erase local recall memory.

Entering Programming Mode

Entering programming mode is a simple keyboard command. Installer code) # #. Default

master code is 0 0 0 0. To exit programming mode press * * (star star).

When programming mode is accessed the status led lights. Entering an address followed by
# (hash) jumps to ‘data’ entry mode, the status led flashes. Enter data but do not press the
# key after data digits. If valid data has been entered the panel will beep twice and jump
to the next address (still in data mode). When LED toggle data is being entered press # to
jump to the next address.

To skip locations in program mode, press *, then enter the desired location, then press #.

Modem Commands (Communication Panel only)

99 # This keypad command forces the panel ‘off hook’ for 30 seconds and looks for modem
tone. The command is normally used to force the panel to answer an incoming up/down
load call.

If the 99 # command is followed by a telephone number, eg. 99 # 3786078, the panel

connects to the phone line and dials the digits 3786078. This command may be used to
dial into a remote computer for up/down loading where the call must originate from the
panel.

Note: during the 30 seconds that the panel is off-hook after 99#, no commands can be
entered from the keypad or they will be dialled as part of the telephone number. Wait 30
seconds after the last key press before entering any other data.
PAGE 5

Cloning Commands

The ‘clone’ commands enable the installer to copy entire set-up programming from an
EEProm chip to the on board program memory. The on board clone socket accepts an 8
pin clone chip, type 24C04.

To load a program from the clone socket into the on board memory:
Enter mmmm (the installer code) # then 1+3 (together)
This command loads the contents of a clone chip to the on board memory but excludes the
installer code (Loc 88) and the four digit communicator account number (Loc 92).

To ‘save’ a program from the on board memory to the clone socket:

Enter mmmm (the master code) # then 4+6 (together)
This command loads the contents of the on board memory into the ‘chip’ plugged into the
clone socket. The installer code is not copied.

Programming

While in program mode, communication and alarm sub-systems are suspended.

For double digits (eg. 15), hold the * key down and enter the second digit. Eg.[*5] = 15

Phone Number Field Programming(Communication Panel only)

The default dial format if none is specified is DTMF. See the following tables for digit
definitions. If the first location in the phone list is blank, the communicator will never
initiate a call (reporting disabled).

Table 1 - Digits in the phone number field.

DIGIT MEANING
Clear/Erased End of call - Terminate call
1-9 inclusive Dial digits 1-9
0 (or 10) Dial 0
11 Dial * (This is a space in a pager message)
12 Dial # (This is a ‘Message End’ pager command)
13 Pause for 3 seconds

Entering phone number(s) and reporting format(s):

The phone number list has 40 available spaces starting at Loc 0. The panel may be
programmed with as many telephone numbers and formats as may be accommodated
within the 40 spaces.

Example: Dial 1st telephone number 12345678 then report in Ademco Express.
If not successful, then :
Dial 2nd telephone number 87654321 then report in 4 +2 @ 20 bps
PAGE 9

Program as follows starting at Loc 0:

[1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [15] [7] [8] [7] [6] [5] [4] [3] [2] [1] [15] [5]

In this example 20 of the available 40 locations are used. Dialling will default to DTMF.
Note the specifier digit 15 which precedes the reporting protocol.

In pager format only, any digit(s) after the format digit is sent at the end of the pager
message transmission. A single location must be left blank to terminate the pager call.

Contact ID Code Programming

Contact ID locations, if not programmed, default to the standard contact-id coding.

Individual codes may be changed within an event group. The actual group numbers are
fixed.

Communications

Home warble mode will now ‘warble’ for 60 seconds, then delete any events in the
reporting queue at the end of the 60 seconds. This will force the communicator to free the
phone line (panel will make additional calls if further zones are activated after hang-up).

If communication to a pager and central station is required, the pager data MUST be
entered first followed by a clear space [1+3], then followed by the central station data.
For example:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 13 13 15 0 [ 1+3] 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 15 9

In this example the panel dials a pager number, adds 2 x 3 second pauses then sends a/c
number and zone data to the pager, then dials a central station and reports in Contact ID.
Note the [1+3] to terminate the pager call.

Message Processing Sequences

Call attempts, Location 140.

The call attempt location sets the maximum number of calls to be made. When a new event
is inserted into the reporting queue, the number of call attempts to transmit the signal is set
to the value of location 140.

If the phone list contains only calls to a home, the call attempts location determines how
many times around the call list for a report. Example: Call attempts of 3 will cause each
number in the list to be called a total of three times.

As pager and home dial have no handshake, they can never fail, always assuming success
means that comms fail event or output will never happen.

Table 4 - Message Processing Sequences

Pager(s) only Delete 1 event at the end of the dialling list

Home(s) only Delete all events after the dialling list has been processed
in its entirety a total of [call attempts] times.
(Two call attempts = each number called twice)
Station(s) only Station deletes events as acknowledged. Second station
only called in event of first station failure.
Pager(s) then Home(s) Delete 1 event at end of dialling list. No communication
Home(s) then Pager(s) failure as this is an implied acknowledge transmission.
Circulates the dialling list until all events sent.
Pager(s) then Station(s) Station deletes events as acknowledged. No events deleted
Home(s) then Station(s) by pager call. Typically, only the first event will be sent to
the pager.
Station(s) then Home(s) Station deletes events as acknowledged. Home only called
Station(s) then Pager(s) if station fails.
PAGE 11

Reporting of AC Power

ON AC POWER FAILURE.
The failure of AC power to the panel is logged in user memory (#83 for recall).
* The report timer is started (run time 12.5 minutes).
* If report timer times out before AC power is restored, the event is reported.
* If AC power is restored prior to timeout, the event is not reported.

ON AC RESTORE.
The AC restore code is reported (this report is sent ONLY after an AC fail report is sent).

Dynamic Battery Test Operation and Reporting

The battery test consists of dropping the main supply voltage to 10.6 Volts every 251/2
minutes, for a period of 12 seconds. Tests are performed shortly after power-up and 251/2
minutes thereafter (unless rescheduled by a power/battery failure).

Battery voltage is monitored continuously (except while in installer program mode). A low
battery report is sent immediately upon detection of low/failed battery. The restore report
will not be sent until 12.5 minutes after the battery has recovered.

Programming the Test Signal Time

For a periodic test signal to be transmitted, all of the following must be programmed.

Test signal report must be enabled - Led 6 in location 188 must be on.
* A valid test time must be entered in location 100. eg 9:23 am must be entered as 0923.
* The clock must be set using the 94#hhmm# command from user mode.

Entering the Current Time into the Clock

While the system is disarmed, entering ‘94#’, the time in hours and minutes, followed by a
‘#’. It is valid to enter 923 or 0923 as 09:23am. The time is in 24 hour format, so 9:23pm
would be entered 2123. Note however, that entering 23 will reset the time to 23 minutes
past midnight.

User Code Zone Disable

Zones may be disabled (including 24 hour zones) by any valid user code. To disable a zone
in an emergency enter a valid user code followed by [4+6]. Select the zone number to be
disabled and hold down the corresponding keypad digit for at least 3 seconds. Scorpion
gives a 2 pip acknowledge. A bypass report is sent for each zone disabled. To reinstate the
zone(s), enter the user code followed by [4+6] , press any key briefly. Scorpion will re-set
and reinstate the excluded zone(s).

To enable user zone disable, zones must be programmed in location 176.

PAGE 12

User Code Change

Scorpion Z6 has 2 master codes located at Loc. 80 and Loc. 84 of the memory map. These
codes are used to program the remaining 10 ‘user codes’. All user codes (including ‘master’
user codes) perform the same panel functions. ‘Master’ user codes can only be changed
using the Installer Code.

User sequence to change codes 1 to 10 (0).

Enter a master code.
• Press keys 1+3 together (keypad beeps twice).
• Enter a new ‘user code’ then press # (1 beep)
• Enter the single digit user code number 1...thru....0 (10)

If the change was successful Scorpion beeps twice. A single long ‘beep’ indicates failure.
Re-try, entering each sequence carefully.

Examples [assuming Loc. 80 (master user code 1) is programmed with 1 2 3 4 ]

Change or enter a new user 3 code. New code to be programmed is 2 2 2 2.

Key sequence: [1 2 3 4 ] then [ 1+3 ] then [ 2 2 2 2 # ] then [ 3 ]

Delete user code 9 from system.

Key sequence: [ 1 2 3 4 ] then [ 1+3 ] then [ # ] then [ 9 ]

Special User ID Reports (Communication Panel Only)

The following user code reporting ID’s are as reported to a typical central station.
Code reported Event
0 Reported when panel is armed/disarmed by MicroCom,
or after power up when panel is armed.
13 (D) Quick arm [ 1 # ]
14 (E) Nite arm / disarm [ 9 1 # ] or NiteWatch arm / disarm.
15 (F) Keyswitch arm / disarm.

Primary Alarm (Bell) Output

The Alarm output on all Scorpion panels (Z6C, Z6L) has been re-rated to enable the panel
to drive higher loads. The output is a solid state switch which switches to ground (-ve) in
alarm. Panels with PCB Version 1.7 onwards can sink loads of 1.6 amps. Care should be
taken to ensure that this rating is not exceeded or permanent damage may result.

Installers should note that the panel power supply is limited to 500mA available for
auxiliary devices (keypads, detectors etc) and a further 400mA for maintaining the
battery. Sirens and other ‘power hungry’ devices used to signal alarm conditions should be
connected directly to the battery +ve, and ‘Alarm’ -ve terminal.
