Learning Outcomes
• Understand the nature of computer-aided design systems
• Demonstrate a capability to manipulate CAD to produce various 2D design
drawings
• Perform advanced skills in 3D CAD to produce complex building
information models
Tasks:
Each student needs to design a four-bedroom detached house which includes: a sitting
room, a dining room, a kitchen, 2 toilets/bathrooms, a main bedroom with en-suite, 3
double/single bedrooms and an attached double garage. The overall floor area
(excluding the garage) should be less than 200m2. The house building has to be a
masonry structure with insulated cavity external walls, timber-joist first floor and a
hipped/pitched roof.
Each student has to choose proper interior walls, windows and doors, and place
appropriate furniture in each room.
The overall model of the house has to be produced in Autodesk Revit with various
3D/perspective views. The following drawings with proper dimensions have to be
produced in the scale of 1:50 and A3 sheets with a filled title panel.
- All floor plans with proper scales, room titles, and windows/door
number dimensions on drawing sheets
- 4 elevations with annotation of external finish material and RWPs
- 2-3 sections (at least one cutting through stairs and external
openings) with dimensions and levels
- the assembly/part details with annotations of materials and
assembly methods, including:
o the joint of the foundation, external wall and ground floor
o the joint of up-floor and external wall
1
o the joint of the roof and external wall
o window sill and lintel
All 2D drawing sheets with title panels (including 3D view on drawing sheets) and a
review report have to be combined as an A3 portfolio. Finally, you need to submit your
portfolio and the Revit file in Blackboard. The submission deadline is on Monday 27th
May 2024.
