No U-Turn Road : Big Decision

Do every people desire a second-chance? Last night I think a lot about this question. To have a
concrete answer, I try to imagine few scenario. It is an easy answer if we put ourselves to
someone who have problems. But, my imagination were directly going toward a prespective of
someone who just win a lottre. If he is offered a sccond chance by magical creature, will he take
it? Or maybe someone who has understand grateful and “enough” concept literally.
These thought came from a phenomenon among my colleagues which few of them had put
themselves into a field that doesn’t suit with their passion. When i know I don’t the same
condition, it is interesting topic to explore about the factors.
In TVs, I watched many clips showing people interview children about what they want to be in
the future. I see major framing of career informations are directing toward doctor, pilot, teacher,
soldier, police, and enterpreneur. Am I saying that these professions are not good? That is not my
point. There are many unpopular career that have not been socialized to highschool student.
Paths that student can choose and getting decent job are so many. But available mentoring and
consulting facility (the free one) are not fully used by them. I just know that my colleagues’
highschool mentoring and consulting teachers are the free facility that students can use to discuss
about career (back then, I see that these teachers only to act disciplinary problems).
During highschool I never imagine about what will I do in the future (even while I am writing
this blog, the picture has never been solid). But after highschool graduation, an answer had to be
made. I am lucky enough to join preparation course, having mentor to guide me and provide
information about majors and campuses. But do the unsatisfied people can be framed as poor
people because they didn’t have access to the information? I don’t see it as a corresponded
factor. Even, I can say that my poor friends (at least they have lower expense standard than me)
don’t have this kind of problem. Furthermore, I see that the problems is experienced by friends
who have and capable to access options.
So, how do the students who have options but unsatisfied with their decision living their campus
life? I would imagine the case similar to when you are playing battle games and knowing that
you have so many opportunity to restart, you don’t have any fear of losing. Though in the
end ,you are losing, I don’t assume that you will think about it a lot. Of course, I don’t want to
believe that every person will think that way and framing that people who have options will be
“lazy”. At least, they don’t have bigger urgent to make a solid decision than “one bullet”
students.
However, I think that how to get rid of “No U-Turn” fear for “one bullet students” to choose
their major is the more important thing to discuss. I have many juniors and friend’s little brother
that having this condition. Though, I hear that major doesn’t determine your career. Yes I
couldn’t agree more. But to achieve those career, we are not doing u-turn but more likely
changing path paralelly. Every path involve expenses of money and time.
I have couple experiences debate the idea of do highschool students are qualified enough to think
about what they will majors in the next four years and even their future career? Well, no one
actually ready enough. Age doesn’t guarantee us to make a good decision easily. Even few of my
colleagues were having hard times to choose what path they will after study. So, what should
students do to choose their major if they just have a bullet to shoot?
The best suggest I can give right know have to be use every facility that they could effort.
Currently, If I have to choose my major once again, I believe that available free platforms
providing informations is enough though preparation courses provide better infromations
visually and substantially. Though we can explore free valuable informations by ourselves,
sometimes meditating is not everyone’s favorite. Having someone to talk and consult to is a next
crucial step to take before going through “No U-Turn” campus life. If I am assuming that every
highschool have mentoring and consulting teachers, I would suggest every students to fully use
them.
Of course, it doesn’t guarantee that you will have solid answer after communicating your idea. I
remembered back then I was choosing psychology majors and my parents were against it. But at
least, I can have their prespective toward myself in the future based on what they see about my
potential and also current career trend. Having strong and independent opinion is a good thing,
but our imagination sometimes biases our ability to make objective decisions. Even after
consulting, if we found out that our opinion is better, then we can believe that our option has
better argumentation and increase it’s objectivity.
I believe that each person has uniquity. And those uniquity suit so many majors and career.
There are absolute no unusefull or untalented human at least for highschool students. But, if we
compare ourselves in a narrow minded frame and knowledge about the opportunties and roles,
we will find ourselves unmatched and trapped to choose a path that can not extract our full
potential as a student.
If you find youself already trapped in undesired path. I would suggest you to keep studying
(especially for one bullet people) and paralel your effort to pursue your passions. Studying in
campus is not just about getting spesific major academic benefits. Being a student is a big
privilage. There are so many opportunities that can be access if you are a student, such as
scholarship, free or discounted price training programs, internships, relations, projects, and
exclusive references. For example, if you are studying biology and starting to interested in web
developing, you can go to faculty of IT and just talk to a students, admins, even lecturers that are
working there about your interest. There is a higher chance (I believe almost 100%) that they
will welcome you than unverified person from public doing the same thing.
Anyway, congratulations to students who have been accepted to their dream campus. Goodluck
for those who are studying for the entrance exam. Last but not least, don’t give up for those who
havent succeded. You will find out that sinking into despair will not change anything, jealousy is
a temporary negative emotion that brings you no where except if you turn it into motivation.
There will always be room for those who keep trying. Keep your chin up. Each people have their
own story, and no one can see it more valueable than yourself. Appreciate yourself!
