1. For some integer q, every odd integer is of the form:
(a) q (b) q + 1 (c) 2q (d) 2q + 1
2. If the system of linear equations in two variables is consistent, then the lines represented
by two equations are:
(a) parallel (b) only intersecting
(c) only coincident (d) intersecting or coincident

(a) after four places of decimal (b) after three places of decimal
(c) after two places of decimal (d) after five places of decimal.
4. The value of k for which the system of equations. 2x + 3y = 5, .....(1)
4x + ky = 10 .......(2)
(a) 3 (b) 6 (c) 0 (d) 1
5. If p (x) is a polynomial in x, the highest power of x in p(x) is called the ———— of the
polynomial.
(a) Value (b)Degree (c) Power (d) coefficient
6. If the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial x² + (a + 1) x + b are 2 and –3, then
(a) a = –7, b = –1 (b) a = 5, b = –1
(c) a = 2, b = – 6 (d) a = 0, b = – 6

Section – B
7. Find the zeroes of the polynomial x² – 3 and verify the relationship between the zeroes and
the coefficients.
8. Find the HCF of 96 and 404 by the prime factorisation method. Hence, find their LCM.
9. Aftab tells his daughter, “Seven years ago, I was seven times as old as you were then. Also,
three years from now, I shall be three times as old as you will be.” (Isn’t this interesting?) Solve
by the method of substitution.
10. Use elimination method to find all possible solutions of the following pair of linear
equations : 2x + 3y =8 ....... (1)
4x + 6y =7 ........ (2)
11. Express each number as a product of its prime factors: (i) 140 (ii) 5005

13. The graphs of y = p(x) are given in Fig. below, for some polynomials p(x). Find the number
of zeroes of p(x), in each case.

14. Find the roots of the following quadratic equations, if they exist, using the quadratic
formula:
