Liver Function Tests (LFT) help determine the health of an individual's liver. It measures the circulating levels of certain proteins,
enzymes and substances that include:
(1) Total Proteins
(2) Albumin - which the liver makes
(3) Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST), Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT) & Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) - which the enzymes found in liver
(4) Bilirubin - i.e., a yellow substance and breakdown of red blood cells causes its formation. Too much bilirubin in blood can cause
Jaundice.
Clinicians evaluate LFT to screen for liver infections (such as hepatitis), monitor progression of hepatic disease and determine how well
a treatment is working. A person should avoid eating before the test. So, we draw fasting venous blood sample in plain vial.
