1.0 This specification covers requirements of Carbon Steel Fabrication for the Brine Clarifier
(Eqpt. No. V-112R) proposed to be installed at M/s. TAMIL NADU PETROPRODUCTS LTD (TPL) Manali,
Chennai.
7.4 Bottom Plate shall be butt-welded construction USING 50x6 thk. Flat as backing strip.
7.5 7.5 Rubber lining contractor will inspect the completed vessel for suitability of lining. Any minor finishing work to
suit rubber lining as pointed by him will be done by vessel fabricator at no extra cost. Similarly, vessel fabricator
will also rectify any defects on metal surface that may appear after sand blasting.
7.6 All butt welds shall be full – penetration welds. Butt welds in both butt joints and T joints shall be made with
more than one run of the electrode.
7.7 Welds shall be made from the side to be covered wherever possible. Where it is not possible to weld from the
side to be covered, the root should be clipped out and sealing run used.
7.8 During tank fabrication and erection, guy ropes or other suitable means shall be provided to secure incomplete
work against damage due to severe wind etc.
7.9 Plate materials shall be straightened and / or flattened by pressing or rolling only, and this shall be done before
the material is processed in any way.
7.10 Tack welds for shell-to-bottom fillet welds, if used, shall be removed prior to welding fillets.
8.1 Inspection stages shall be decided by the Engineer-in-charge in consultation with the vendor before
commencement of work.
8.2 Any other tests and inspection as per the code requirements will have to be done as per Client’s requirement.
8.4 Any repair of welds shall be done only with prior approval of the Engineer-in-charge as per procedure suggested
by vendor and approved by Engineer-in-charge.
8.5 All Shell plates profiled to tolerance of + 2mm in length + 1mm width. In addition, to ensure that plates are truly
rectangular, the diagonals, measured across the rectangle formed by scribing lines 50mm from each edge, shall
not differ by more than 3mm. For lapped and welded roof and bottom plates, normal mill tolerances are
acceptable.
8.6 For hydro static test, the tank shall be filled with water to the full shell height. To successfully complete the test,
the tank shall stand full for a period of 24 hours with no leaks. All leaks shall be required to the satisfaction of the
Engineer-in-charge. In addition to a foundation level survey prior to erection, level surveys shall be performed of
the tank periphery for settlement at regular intervals before hydro testing, during hydro testing ( at quarter full,
half full, three quarter full and full) and after emptying, the readings shall be recorded. All levels and settlements
shall be measured with optical survey apparatus. The readings recorded shall be submitted for review/approval
by Engineer-in-charge.
8.7 During the course of the test, vendor shall ensure that overflow of water into the launder is uniform all along the
rim circumference of the launder. It should also be ensured that water flows freely along the launder bottom to the
outlet pipe.
