GUIDELINES AND MECHANICS FOR THE INVITATIONAL MATHALAS QUIZ BEE ‘24

A. GUIDELINES
1) The invitational MATHALAS Quiz Bee is open for all Public and Private Schools within Buug
District. This will be participated by Grade-10 Students only. The MATHALAS Quiz Bee will
cover ……

2) VENUE, DATE, TIME


This invitational quiz bee will be held at Mindanao State University-Buug Campus
Gymnasium, on March 15, 2024, Friday at 8: Am in the morning.

4) CONTESTANTS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS


1. Each school must have two (2) contestants who must be a Grade 10 student. Participants from
each school will not unite as a team; instead, they will compete against each other individually.
2. Contestants must be in their complete school uniform.

5) PRIZES
1. The Champion shall receive an amount of P3,000 pesos with spot sublimation T-shirt
2. The 1st runner-up shall receive an amount of P2,000 pesos with spot sublimation T-shirt
3. The 2nd runner-up shall receive an amount of P1,000 pesos with spot sublimation T-shirt
B. MECHANICS
1. All contestants will answer the same set of questions.
2. There will be 3 components namely: Easy round, Average Round, and Difficult Round.
3. The questions will be given in multiple-choice form.
4. Each round has an allotted time:
Easy: 15 seconds per item
Average: 20 seconds per item
Difficult: 30 seconds per item
5. Each contestant will be provided with cardboards. A “show-me-board” will be used by the
contestants in writing down answers.
6. Questions will be read twice by the Quizmaster. The contestants are allowed to start solving
while the question is being read. After the time allotted expires, the contestants will be asked to
stop writing and the quizmaster shall say “go” only then will the contestants be allowed to raise
their answer.
7. Each round will be an elimination round. There will be 15 questions and contestants are given 15
seconds for each item to choose their respective answer. For Easy round, contestants who gets a
total of 3 wrong answer will be automatically eliminated.
8. The remaining participants will proceed to the average round which contains 10 questions worth
2 points each. This time, each participant will be given a paper and a pen.
9. The top 10 contestants with the highest score in Average round will move on to the difficult
round.
10. Difficult round contains 5 questions worth 5 points each. In the difficult round, out of the 10
participants, the top 5 with the highest scores will be selected.
11. Among these Top 5 participants, the Top 3 will be determined by adding up the points earned
from the average round up to the difficult round. The participant with the highest total score will
be declared as the champion, the second and the third highest score earners will be declared 1 st
runner-up and the 2nd runner-up, respectively.
12. If there is a tie, clincher questions will be given. The first contestant who will gain point over the
other shall be considered as the winner in the tie-breaker.
13. Any violation of the aforementioned guidelines will result to the forfeiture of titles, prizes and
privileges awarded to the contestant concerned.
