visuals to show their knowledge in unique ways.

Lesson idea implementation:


The students would be introduce to the sundial and how to make one. The goals would be known
through “I can” statements. Technology would be used by watching a video of how to make a
sundial. The teacher will first demonstrate how to make a sundial and show the students how it
works with the use of a flashlight. The students will receive feedback through comments of how
their sundial is created based on accuracy. I will conclude the lesson by allowing the students to test
out their sundials outside of the classroom.

Managing student learning: I believe that the tools would change the students into active learners for the
lesson. Because the students will be creating sundials themselves, they are in turn being put in the mindset of
ancient times when they were using sundials to tell time. I would plan for this activity to be done before lunch
or dismissal time when the students will be given a specific time to complete the lesson.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.
Because this is a hands-on activity, the students will be able to take this information learned and
they will have the knowledge of how people used to tell time and how they can decipher from night
and day other than looking at the sky. Using the student’s expression, they can show their creativity
when they are creating their sundial.
Reflection: I believe that it will impact their learning because it is a craft they would be able to enjoy
learning about history in a fun way. I look forward to creating the sundials and watching the
students not only tell time but see the importance of the sun in correlation to time.
