GUAVA LEAVES AND

SINEGUELAS LEVAES AS
LAXATIVE TEA TO TREAT
CONSTIPATION

BACKGROUND
Constipation occurs when your colon absorbs too much water from waste
(stool/poop), making it harder to expel out of your body. To give you a little
background, nutrients are absorbed as food travels through the digestive system.
The partially digested food (waste) moves through the small intestine and into the
colon, which is the big intestine. The colon absorbs water from the waste, resulting in
the formation of stool. Food may travel too slowly through your digestive tract if you
have constipation. This causes the colon to absorb excessive amounts of water from
the waste. It gets dry, hard, and difficult to push out the stool. It is therefore in the
stated scenarios that the researcher had come up with a research study entitled
“Guava ( Psidium guajava) Leaves and Sineguelas (Spondias purpurea) Leaves as
Laxative Tea to Treat Constipation ” to yield the best result.
OBJECTIVES
This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Guava (Psidium
guajava) leaves and Sineguelas (Spondias purpurea) leaves as an
alternative tea to treat constipation. It sought answers to the following
questions: (1) What are the phytochemical properties found in Guava and
Sineguelas Leaves to treat constipation? (2) How effective are the Guava
and Sineguelas leaves in treating constipation? (3) Is there a significant
difference between the commercial product and alternative tea made out of
Guava and Sineguelas in terms of (a) treating constipation, (b) taste, (c)
aroma, and (d) cost?

RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS

It can be seen that there is an average Mean of 4.0000 for the experimental Laxative
treatment which is numerically higher than the Control treatment which has a 3.6000 average
taste acceptability
It can be seen that there is an average Mean of 3.5000 for the experimental Laxative
treatment which is numerically higher than the Control treatment which has a 3.2000 average
odor acceptability
It can be seen that there is an average Mean of 4.9000 for the experimental Laxative
treatment which is numerically higher than the Control treatment which has a 4.6000 average
effectiveness.
CONCLUSION
1. The researcher found out that the Guava (Psidium guajava) and
Sineguelas (Spondias purpurea) can be used as an alternative to treat
constipation.

2. The researcher found out that the Guava (Psidium guajava) and
Sineguelas (Spondias purpurea) leaves are acceptable in terms of; taste
and odor.

3. The researcher found out that there is no significant difference

between the commercial laxative tea (BiofiTea) and the Guava leaves
and Sineguelas leaves laxative tea in terms of; treating constipation,
taste and odor.
RECOMMENDATIONS
The researcher would like to recommend to the future researchers
that:

1. They could improve the alternative laxative tea by using the Guava
fruit and Sineguelas fruits extract.

2. The researcher also recommends using Guava fruit and Sineguelas

fruit to extract their product by the process of squeezing to have a
more concentrated taste.

3. The researcher suggests using Guava leaves and Sineguelas leaves for
other treatments or improving the product by using aromatics like lemon
basil to enhance the taste and odor of the product, however, it is
important to study its properties first to have a better product.
OUTCOMES
The study is useful by minimizing the use of chemical ingredients that
may cause complications to the person due to its not good properties

To the financially unprivileged people they can buy or afford the

product because of its low cost and they can use it as an alternative.
