I . Objectives

at the end of the lesson, the students should be able to.

a. Recognize the difference between common noun and proper noun


b. Use capital letters properly
c. Appreciate the use of common noun and proper noun

What is noun ?

- A noun is a part of speech it refers


to a name of person, animal, thing,
and event.
- Noun is the name of person, place,
thing, animal, and events.

We have two kinds of noun


1. Common noun - is use to name
general nouns. They are not
capitalized unless they come at the
beginning of a sentence.
Examples:

Person: mother, father, teacher, doctor


They don't have a specific name so they
just start with small letter.

Things: Pencil, books, mobile phone,


shoes, electric fan.
Animals: dog, cat, bird, horse, chicken

Places: playground, school, shopping


mall, amusement park

How about proper nouns? Kindly read.

- Proper noun is used to name


specific noun, they should
capitalized in and part of a
sentence.
Examples:

Person: Mary, Romnick, Miss Anna


Reyes, Dr. David

Things: Mongol, English, Samsung, Nike,


Hanabishi

Animals: Brownie, Kitty, Tweety, Pony,


Kooku

Places: Kidzone, Cainta Elementary


School, SM Mall, Sky Ranch
