Karnataka - the Varaanga Jain Temple . It has a history dating back to about
850 years . It is dedicated to the Jain Lord Parshwanatha. This 12th century

The temple surroundings in present day scenario consists of mostly various

other temples , Basadis , a cricket ground , local restaurants , cooperative
societies and other small scale buildings .The prominent percentage of open

specifically designated for Kambala - the Varaanga Kambala Gaddhe .

The temple gaining a lot of tourist attention recently is not catering to certain
basic requirements such as ease of transit and access .There are not many
feasible options for food and washroom facilities as well .Even though the
temple is just about 40 kms from the Udupi city center , the transit
connectivity is very poor and timings are not favoring the everyday lifestyle of
people .There are extremely narrow roads navigating throughout the road
networks making it extremely unsafe for smaller vehicles to travel through as
these roads are dominated by large vehicles such as buses , lorries , inter -
state trucks etc. In addition ,the surroundings are not well- maintained which
can lead to further deterioration of the precious monument

NEED FOR THE STUDY :

Redevelopment around the Varanga Jain Temple holds the promise of

revitalizing not just the physical infrastructure but also the cultural and
economic vibrancy of the area. At its heart lies the imperative to preserve and
showcase the rich heritage embodied by the temple. The architectural marvels
and religious significance of the temple make it an icon for both pilgrims and
tourists alike. By redeveloping the surroundings, we ensure that this cultural
gem retains its allure for generations to come. This could involve meticulous
maintenance of the temple's intricate carvings and structures, coupled with
the creation of museum spaces or interpretive centers to deepen visitors'
understanding of Jainism and the region's historical legacy.

Moreover, redevelopment offers an opportunity to address the infrastructural

shortcomings that may hinder the temple's accessibility and overall visitor
experience. Investing in well-designed roads, parking facilities, and pedestrian
pathways can ease congestion, ensuring a seamless flow of visitors while
preserving the sanctity of the temple precinct. Additionally, the introduction
of modern amenities such as clean restroom facilities, resting areas, and
information kiosks can enhance visitor comfort and satisfaction. By seamlessly
integrating these elements into the surrounding landscape, we create an
environment conducive to reflection, spiritual contemplation, and cultural
immersion.
