3 Definition, Applicability and Limitations

3.1 Definition

Adhesive tape
An adhesive tape is a carrier material coated with an adhesive. The adhesive can be applied on one or on
both sides (double-faced application) of the carrier material. A distinction is made between pressure sensitive
adhesive and heat activated adhesive. An adhesive tape without carrier is called transfer tape.

Carrier
A carrier is a flat shaped material, which carries the adhesive and can consist of different materials (foils, fabric,
etc.). The carrier can be reinforced with e.g. filaments.

Digital printing
The ink is applied directly on a label material via a digital printer.
Ink
Composite material containing colorants, functional components, vehicle and additives

Manufacturer
The company or organization responsible for producing the part against an Airbus drawing.

Manufacturing shop
The specific workshop intended for manufacture to this process specification.

Printing device
A printing device produces hard copy output or prints on media such as paper from digital electronic
documents.

Process Instruction
A document which specifies all of the essential process and quality requirements for a specific manufacturing
process. It is a complete detailed in house process instruction and shall be used in conjunction with the
drawing and relevant Airbus Process Specification.

Product-O-sample
A product-O-Sample is product sample accepted and signed by the Airbus design department. It is the only
standard for acceptance or rejection of a product with regard to color and.

Reference manufacturing shop

A manufacturing shop selected in order to develop a manufacturing process and to improve on current
processes.

Reference manufacturing shop group (RMSG)

A group of experts responsible for a manufacturing process. This group is in charge of validation of the
technical requirements and technical qualifications. For each manufacturing process to be qualifies, a
reference manufacturing shop group is nominated.

Rework
Rework means the removal of production and assembly related non-conformances with the aim of reaching
the required component condition defined in the engineering documents.

Storage life
The maximum period of time that the material may be used when stored by the purchaser under the
conditions specified in the material specification.

3.2 Applicability and Limitations

The Airbus specification is applicable when invoked by drawing directly or through another document for the
purpose given in the scope. When processing to AIPSOB-02-008 is required, it shall be invoked on the
drawing by the words "Manufacturing and marking of labels by the digital printing process according to
AIPS0B-02-008". Process instructions shall not be called on drawing.
This specification is applicable to manufacture labels and placards using the digital printing process. T he
materials to be processed by the reference manufacturing shop under this specification shall be qualified by
Airbus according to the relevant Airbus material specification.
This specification shall not be used for silk screen printing, thermotransfer printing or the metalphoto
process.
When requested by the relevant drawing or specification the label sha ll be protected according to AIPS0?-06-
007 to improve resistance to erosion and/ or hydraulic fluid.
When requested by the relevant drawing or specification, an adhesive tape shall be applied according to
Al PS06-02-009.

Unless otherwise specified, the requirements of this specification shall be mandatory.

4.1.1 Visual appearance

The appearance and legibility of the marking shall be satisfactory. The appearance has to be approved via a
product-O-sample by the relevant Airbus design department for every new process qualification and / or
change of process. The label and / or marking shall be uniform in dimensions and color as defined in the
relevant drawing or standard. Colors have to be compliant with those specified in the Airbus interior color list
which can be obtained by the relevant Airbus design department.
When examined visually, the manufactured labels and/ or markings shall be free from defects defined in table
