ZXILKHA MAE S. GARCIA

A narrative report submitted to the faculty of the Department of Management Cavite

State University Imus Campus - Imus City, Cavite. In partial fulfillment of the
requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Management.
Prepare under the supervision of Ms. Jenica Y. Manuel.

INTRODUCTION

On the day after graduating Senior High School, there are always these
questions among students about where they can take our lives from being a student
to being something else. After some more time, they tend to get a glimpse of it which
leads them into making a decision on which among the many choices of courses in
different universities would a student take. Within that process of envisioning the
possible future of their preferred careers, there will always be this part where they
imagine themselves working within that workplace doing the stuff and roles that
society perceives it.
Upon entering the first three years within the course the student chooses,
they are given multiple modules and lessons when it comes to their future roles and
responsibilities within the line of work their courses can offer them. This also includes
the possible attitude and solutions among problems that they can use once they face
it in the future. The school also teaches the students on how multiple systems and
processes work within the workplace so that the students would have this clear
knowledge of it, eliminating the possibility that this could surprise them the first
moment they step in a company.
Fourth year is different, since everything within those three years have the
opportunity to be put in practice after all those units and time within lesson by lesson
that the school offers. This is where the On-The-Job Training gives the students a
broader perspective within the reality of their future careers. All those early onset
expectations, roles, and how society has perceived the job, all of it would be set
aside since the students would have this preview or introduction to the reality of what
their jobs really are. On-The-Job training eliminates the possibility that any student
would enter a workplace with a novice state or a person who has no knowledge

1
whatsoever of what is the reality of a worker within a company. OJT is an opportunity
rather than a training, since this gives them a different amount of learning as they
experience the life of a worker in the couple of months that the university permits
them to.

Objectives of the On-The-Job Training

On-The-Job Training is aimed for the student trainee to collect new

knowledge and widen their skills within the field of Business Management, this
internship is aimed to:
1. To introduce the workplace, environment, roles and responsibilities of the
student’s future careers before setting afoot within a company.
2. Give the students a preview of how certain processes and systems work
within the job that leads to successful outcomes.
3. How to work within a team of professionals which raises the standards of
company outcome.
4. Provides them the experience of the everyday role that they may play within a
workplace once they graduate after college.
5. To harness and carve the thinking ability and professional attitude of a
student when it comes to facing real-life work situations within the workplace.

Significance of the On-The-Job Training

This training is a crucial part when it comes to being near upon the end of a
four-year course of any student. This training gives the student a clear vision of
expectations when it comes to the role and responsibilities of the student when it
comes to their respective future careers. Giving an opportunity like this to the
students would make them be more prepared towards the jobs including the systems
and processes that they need to learn to be a more efficient and decent worker in the
workplace. This opportunity also gives them the eagerness to place themselves in a
corporate environment since they would be exposed to real workers where they can
also learn their ways of making the job easier without lowering the standards of their
performances.
All in all, the importance of the On-The-Job training among our courses gives
the students a preview of their future careers or lives. With this, they are offered a
great deal of learnings from real-life experiences that happen within the workplace
based upon the course that they took up. They are exposed on the playing field

2
where they can apply their knowledge that their universities thought them to expect
when it comes to stepping foot into society as a worker.

Time and Place of the On-The-Job Training

THE TRAINING EXPERIENCE

Task Performed

Before the on-the-job training (OJT) started, Ms. Sheila Marie Dorado, the HR
Recruiter. She started by giving the new interns at Philippian Marketing Corporation a
quick orientation. During the orientation the laws, rules, and regulations of the
company were discussed, along with the potential workload that will need to be
completed over the training term. The instructions and went over the following task
and responsibilities that the interns will perform.

8
• Recruitment process including passive hiring, job posting in different platforms such
as indeed, artmeet, behance, facebook and more.
• Assist applicants regarding their assessment, sending interview schedule,
answering inquiry about the job posting etc.
• Filling and organizing employees record 201 and 202 files.
• Encode memo violations, employees record, monitoring sheets etc.
• Encode NDA, NCA, and Contract of employees.
• Timekeeping of employees and trainees
• Compute and release the salary of employees and trainees.
• Help on admin tasks such as sourcing events place and warehouse, create props
for team building, decorating and more.

Observed Strengths of the Training Area

In the training area, several strengths have been observed among the trainees
and applicants. They actively seek and welcome opinions and suggestions for
improving tasks, the department, and the organization as a whole. Additionally, they
demonstrate a strong commitment to achieving predetermined goals by diligently
completing assigned tasks and respecting organizational rules and regulations. Their
punctuality and willingness to work overtime to ensure task completion reflect their
dedication and reliability. They also benefit from ample space, tools, and equipment
to efficiently carry out assigned tasks. Furthermore, they maintain transparency by
openly addressing observed issues that require attention.
However, there are notable weaknesses that have been identified. Some trainees
and applicants, after attending interviews and undergoing two days of training, do not
return due to distance issues. This absenteeism contributes to manpower shortages
and affects operational continuity. Additionally, some employees have gone AWOL
because they struggled with working overtime without pay until meeting their quota,
highlighting challenges in managing workload expectations and retention strategies
within the organization. Addressing these weaknesses will be crucial in optimizing
training effectiveness and maintaining workforce stability.

Insights

During her internship at Philippian Marketing Corporation, the intern

successfully engaged in the company's goals of fostering personal growth, acquiring

9
skills, and gaining additional knowledge. This opportunity allowed her to apply her
college learning and gain practical experience in various workplace scenarios, paving
the way for her career aligned with her human resource degree.

In the 600 hours spent at the company, she extensively learned about human
resource management. Her tasks included recruitment activities such as posting
jobs, assisting applicants, answering queries, and sending offers and rejection
letters, among others. This experience underscored the significance of practical
experience in preparing students for their chosen field, highlighting the distinctions
from theoretical learning in college. Furthermore, she was involved in real-world
tasks such as encoding memo violations, recording 201 and 202 files, and managing
NDAs, NCAs, and employee contracts. Through these tasks, she contributed to
effective organizational operations and employee management. Moreover, the
experience provided her with a deeper understanding of teamwork and collaboration
as she worked with colleagues to achieve common goals.

The support and advice from her supervisors at Philippian Marketing

Corporation were very helpful during the internship. She learned a lot about the
industry and gained practical skills that will help her in her future career. Working with
experienced professionals also gave her a better understanding of human resource
strategies and how to work with employees. Overall, the internship was important for
her personal and professional development, laying a strong foundation for her career
in marketing.

Problems Encountered

As the trainee undergoes her training in PMC, she notices some areas that need to
improve in the organization, specifically in the HR Department.
Qualifications. She noticed that there are times that they are having a hard time to
source applicants due to the minor qualification, for example the age limit. They only
accommodate applicants that are 18-30 years old. Aside from that the trainee
observes

10
Lack of human power. Not only in the HR department but also in the other
departments due to the fact that some employees were given 2 or more tasks at a
time, instead of 1 at a time, that affects the ability to differentiate between relevant
information and irrelevant details. The trainee also observes a
Lack of facilities in the organization. Like canteen or pantry as well as more
comfort rooms, though as per the trainer PMC is a startup company still it will be
more pleasant if the organization will add more facilities.

Suggestions for Improvement

Remove age limit. Removing the age limit or considering adding up the age limit
of the applicants and just focus on the skills, education and experience of the
applicants will be one of the solutions in terms of the age limit problem of the
organization.
Hire more applicants. Hiring more people will cut down on the team's overtime
hours to potentially lessen turnover rates and the team's risk of burnout, would also
be a solution in terms of lack of human power.
Add facilities. Giving a space or adding even just a small pantry to the organization
will encourage a culture of health and positivity among the staff members in the
workplace.

SUMMARY

"On-the-Job Training (OJT) offers essential hands-on experience vital for

professional growth. Unlike theoretical learning, OJT involves participants directly in
real-world situations, enabling immediate application of knowledge. This practical
involvement promotes a deeper grasp of job responsibilities and improves skill

11
proficiency. Additionally, OJT provides mentorship opportunities where seasoned
colleagues offer guidance and feedback, nurturing technical expertise and soft skills
alike. Trainees benefit from ongoing assessment, helping them refine their methods
and adjust to workplace dynamics effectively. In summary, OJT not only provides
practical skills necessary for roles but also establishes a foundation for long-term
career development and adaptability in various work environments."
The trainee experiences onsite on-the-job training with the help of her trainor,
Ms. Sheila Marie Dorado. She spent 600 hours of internship in Philippian Marketing
Corporation, e-commerce company located at Parkhomes Subdivision, Queens Row
West, Molino III, Bacoor City, Cavite. Her working schedule was Monday to Saturday
from 7am to 4pm. She does over time if the company has an event.
Being a HR intern, she had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various
aspects of human resources. Throughout her internship, she was able to contribute
to meaningful projects and learn from seasoned professionals in the field.
During her time as an HR intern, one of her main responsibilities was assisting
with the recruitment process. This involved reviewing resumes and coordinating
interviews. She learned how to effectively communicate with candidates and assess
their qualifications for different positions. She also had the chance to observe and
learn from experienced HR professionals during the interview process which
deepened her understanding of effective interviewing techniques. This experience
also allowed her to develop strong organizational and communication skills.
Throughout her internship, she also had the opportunity to assist with HR
administration tasks, employee engagement, and compensation and benefits. In HR
administration involved maintaining employee records, updating databases and
handling confidential information, and in employee engagement involved drafting
memos and last is the HR compensation and benefits involved timekeeping and
payroll.

She learned the importance of attention to detail and accuracy when

managing employee’s data. She also gained experience in payroll processing and
benefits administration which gave her a comprehensive understanding of the
administrative side of human resources. Furthermore, she had the chance to work on
special projects during her internship. These projects ranged from conducting
research on HR best practices to developing training materials for employees. She
appreciated the opportunity to take on these projects as they allowed her to apply the

12
knowledge and skills in a practical setting. It also helped her to develop problem
solving and critical thinking abilities.
Her HR internship was a valuable experience. It will provide her with a well-
rounded understanding of various HR functions and allow her to work alongside
experienced professionals. She is grateful for the guidance and mentorship she
received during her internship.
