Updated Program Basic Entom Training
Updated Program Basic Entom Training
Progress in malaria control in the Philippines over the past decade was largely achieved through
investments in improving case management and vector control, both by increasing access and
utilization of both malaria control services.
In order to sustain these gains until malaria elimination is achieved in the whole country and
prevent reintroduction of malaria in areas already declared free of the disease, there is a need to
effectively monitor intervention coverage, track vector resistance to insecticides and characterize
the receptivity to guide classification of areas. These responsibilities can only be met by the
regional and provincial staff with the training and support required to be able to effectively plan,
monitor, evaluate and manage control and elimination program efforts. The National Malaria
Control and Elimination Program, as well as the other mosquito borne disease control programs,
will need to create adequate numbers of well-trained personnel to effectively participate in Vector
borne disease control and elimination activities.
In this regard, the course aims to contribute to the achievement of the national/regional target set
for malaria elimination and the control of the other mosquito-borne disease, by making vector
control more efficient, cost effective, ecologically sound and sustainable. It also purposes to
expand and adapt entomology skills to include epidemiological approach for more effective
collection of entomological field data that is useful in planning and implementation of appropriate
response and to take better advantage of the development in education, information and
communication technology in transferring to others knowledge and skills acquired during the
course.
