Opening Speech

Name of Delegate - Jesse Sharma

Country - Iran
Date of MUN - 15th December, 2023
Timings - 9:15am to 4:00pm

Honourable Chair and fellow delegates,

The war with Hamas is already one of the most severe in Israel and Palestine's history, with
thousands of dead citizens of both Palestine and Israel and no sign of an approaching end in
sight.
Undoubtedly, The Islamic Republic of Iran plays a very important role in the Middle East.
Despite openly supporting Hamas, Iran does not want the Israel-Hamas conflict to escalate any
further than this.
Iran has emerged as one of the critics of the brutal Israeli attack on Gaza. And that's in line with
its persistent anti-Israel foreign policy.
It has been claimed that the Gaza War could suggest a conflict between Iran and Israel ever since
it started.
The Islamic Republic of Iran cannot rally society as it did in the 1980s battle with Iraq to wage
another war.
While Iran has denied any involvement in the Hamas strikes against Israel, it will have a
significant impact on whether the conflict spreads given its support for a regional "axis of
resistance."
Of course, Iran may be mistaken about the impact of the war on its reputation and power. The
leaders of Iran are fully aware that a wider battle runs the risk of turning into a direct assault on
their nation, weakening or even destroying the Islamic Republic.
