FIRST YEAR LMD Statistics Exam : 18/ 01/ 2024 TIME : 1 HOUR & HALF
The First Exercise (5 points):
1. Statistical study on a sample of 30 families in Sétif province, on the number of cars purchased from a Fiat
Agency during the year 2023. Identify in a table the following: The statistical population, the statistical unit, the
statistical variables and the variable type.
2. A statistical study was conducted on a sample of cars from three different brands on the amount of gasoline
consumed (L/km), and the following shapes were obtained:

Shape (1) : Brand A Shape (2) : Brand B Shape (3) : Brand C

After studying the three shapes, we obtained the following results for the values of Fisher's skewness
coefficient: αF = 1.72 , αF = −1.72, αF = 0 .
A. What does each value of αF obtained indicate? B. What is the corresponding shape for each value of αF ?
The Second Exercise (5 points):
A statistical study was conducted on a sample of 100 third-year undergraduate students in economics on the
number of times they borrowed books from the college library. The results were as follows:

𝐱𝐢 00 01 02 03 04 05 06
𝐟𝐢 0.03 0.12 0.33 0.28 0.11 0.09 0.04
Required:
1. Calculate the cumulative relative frequencies, ascending and descending, and then plot them graphically.
2. Calculate the average number of times books are borrowed.
3. Infer the value of the mode with explanation.
4. What is the number and percentage of students who borrowed books between 4 and 6 times?
The Third Exercise (10 points):
The following table shows the annual electricity consumption of a sample of 40 households in Sétif province,
(Unit: 10² kilowatts).
The Quantity Consumed (𝒙𝒊 ) [0-2[ [2-4[ [4-6[ [6-8[ Total
Number of Households(𝒏𝒊 ) 10 20 8 2 40

We have: ∑ 𝑛𝑖 (𝐶𝑖 − 𝑋̅)2 = 103,684 ∑ 𝑛𝑖 (𝐶𝑖 − 𝑋̅)3 = 80, 88 ∑ 𝑛𝑖 (𝐶𝑖 − 𝑋̅)4 = 761,43
Required:
1. Calculate each of : 𝑿̅ , ، 𝑴𝒐
2. Calculate the median 𝑀𝑒 and the 67th percentile, and then represent them graphically.
3. In a similar study on a sample of households in Algiers province, the results were as follows:
Average consumption: 4.2 kW, Standard deviation: 2.62 kW. Compare the level and dispersion of annual
electricity consumption between the two provinces.
4. Study the cases of skewness and kurtosis.
5. If we assume that, the distribution of annual electricity consumption is a normal (symmetrical) distribution.
calculate the percentage of households that:
A. Consumes less than 3.1 kW of electricity per year.
B. Consumes between 1.49 and 4.71 kW of electricity per year.
C. Consumes more than 7.93 kW of electricity per year.
D. Consumes between 6.32 and 4.18 kW of electricity per year.
-GOOD LUCK -
