1.Basic hydraulic components?
 Reservoir

The reservoir is a tank that holds the hydraulic fluid (usually oil). It provides a
storage area for the fluid and helps in dissipating heat generated during operation.
Function: It ensures a steady supply of fluid to the pump and helps maintain the
system's temperature.
Example: In a hydraulic excavator, the large tank that holds hydraulic oil serves as
the reservoir.
 pump
The pump is responsible for converting mechanical energy into hydraulic energy
by forcing the fluid from the reservoir into the system.
Function: It generates the flow required to operate the hydraulic system.
Example: A hydraulic gear pump in a forklift is used to generate hydraulic pressure
for lifting loads.

 valve
Valves control the flow and direction of the hydraulic fluid. They can be of various
types, including directional control valves, pressure control valves, and flow
control valves. They can start, stop, or change the flow direction.
Function: They regulate the movement of fluid through the system, enabling
precise control of actuators.
Example: A directional control valve in a hydraulic crane controls the movement of
the crane's boom and hook.
 actuator
An actuator, often in the form of a hydraulic cylinder, converts the hydraulic
energy back into mechanical energy. It typically consists of a piston inside a
cylinder filled with hydraulic fluid.
Function: When pressurized, the hydraulic fluid pushes the piston, generating
linear motion.
Example: A hydraulic cylinder in a bulldozer is an actuator that pushes and pulls to
move the bulldozer blade.
 motor
A hydraulic motor operates in a manner opposite to a pump. It converts hydraulic
energy into mechanical energy, providing rotational motion.
Function: It powers machinery and equipment that require rotary motion
Example: A hydraulic motor in a winch on a tow truck is used to reel in and release
the towing cable.

 cylinder
Hydraulic cylinders are essentially tubes with a piston inside. When pressure is
applied, it moves the piston, which in turn moves whatever is connected to it.
Example: In a hydraulic press, a cylinder is used to exert force on a workpiece to
shape or compress it.
2. 6 components of a pneumatic system
A pneumatic system is a mechanical system that uses compressed air to transmit and
control power. It's commonly used in various industrial applications. Here are the
components of a typical pneumatic system along with examples:

 Air tools
These are powered by compressed air and are commonly used for various tasks
like drilling, cutting, and fastening.
Example: Pneumatic drills, impact wrenches, and nail guns.

 air filter
The air filter removes impurities and moisture from the compressed air, ensuring
that clean and dry air is supplied to the system. This ensures the system operates
smoothly and prevents damage to components.
Example: A particulate filter or a coalescing filter.

 control valves used in air systems.

Control valves are used to regulate the flow and pressure of compressed air
within the system, they can start, stop, and direct the flow to different actuators
or devices.
Example: Solenoid valves, directional control valves, and pressure relief valves.
 Actuator
Actuators are devices that convert the energy from compressed air into
mechanical motion. They can be cylinders or rotary actuators, which are used to
move or control different parts of a machine.
Example: A pneumatic cylinder that moves a conveyor belt.

 Lubricator
This component is responsible for adding a controlled amount of lubricating oil to
the compressed air. It helps reduce wear and friction in moving parts, prolonging
the life of the system Example: An oil fog lubricator.
 regulator in the air system.
A regulator maintains a consistent pressure level in the system by adjusting the
pressure of the compressed air as needed.
Example: A pneumatic pressure regulator.
