Lesson Plan in TLE 7 (CARPENTRY)

I. Objectives:
At the end of the 50-minute discussion at least 75% of the students should be able to do the
following:
A. Identify materials and tools used in carpentry and building construction.
B. Prepare and organise the necessary tools for a task according to its classifications.

KBI: Appreciate the importance of knowing the different kinds of tools used in carpentry and
building construction.

II. Subject Matter:


A. Topic: Prepare Tools Used in Carpentry and Building Construction
B. Reference: Technology and Livelihood Education 7 / 8 Module 1
C. Instructional Materials:
1. Pictures of a house and some furniture products
2. Pictures of Tools and Materials used in Carpentry
3. Printed visual aids (cartolina papers)

D. Concept: Classifications of Tools used in Carpentry and Building Construction:


Measuring, Guiding and Testing, Marking and Lining, Holding, Tooth Cutting, Edge
Cutting, Boring, Driving, Masonry and Miscellaneous.

III. Procedure:
A. Review / Recall
1. What are the basic materials used in building a house?

B. Motivation
1. The teacher will show the students pictures of a house and some furniture
products and ask the following questions:
a. “What do you observe in the pictures that I have shown to you?”
b. “What are these projects made of?”
c. “How do you think these projects were made?”
d. “What did the builders or the carpenters used in making these
projects?”
e. “What kinds of tools did they use?”

C. Lesson Proper

C1. Activity
 Students will be paired by twos. Each pair will come to the front, the
other will pick up a printed description of a tool and read it aloud while
the other will find the picture of the described tool and together they will
paste it under its corresponding group or classification of tools.
C2. Analysis
 Why is it necessary for us to use these tools instead of other improvised
devices when we do carpentry or building construction?
 Why can’t we use our own natural strength and ability in working without
the aid of these tools?
 What do you think will happen to our project if we won’t use the proper
tools in each task that we do?
 What do you think will happen to us as workers if we won’t consider these
things?

C3. Abstract/Generalization
 What are the classifications of tools used in Carpentry and Building
Construction?
 Give examples of tools belonging to each classification.

C4. Application
 The teacher will show to the class some of the actual tools used in
carpentry and building construction.
 The class will identify each tool as to what classification it belongs.

VI. Assignment:
A. Conduct an interview with a carpenter in your community and gather the following
data:

1. Name and age of the carpenter


2. Number of years of experience as a carpenter
3. List of tools in carpentry that he owns.

B. Take a picture with the carpenter in his working gear.
