This standard has been published in accordance with a decision taken by ECISS/TC 1 to adopt, without
alteration, International Standard ISO 18265 as a European Standard.
The responsible German body involved in its preparation was the Normenausschuss Materialprüfung (Ma-
terials Testing Standards Committee), Technical Committee Härteprüfung für Metalle.

Amendments
DIN 50150, October 2000 edition, has been superseded by the specifications of ISO 18265, which is
identical to ISO 18265.

Foreword
International Standard
ISO 18265 : 2003 Metallic materials – Conversion of hardness values,
which was prepared by ISO/TC 164 ‘Mechanical testing of metals’ of the International Organization for Stand-
ardization, has been adopted by Technical Committee ECISS/TC 1 ‘Steels – Mechanical and physical tests’,
the Secretariat of which is held by AFNOR, as a European Standard.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, and conflicting national standards withdrawn, by May 2004 at the latest.
In accordance with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the follow-
ing countries are bound to implement this European Standard:
Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland,
Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the
United Kingdom.
