NTPC

NTPC or National Thermal Power Corporation is India's largest power generation company. In Forbes Global 2000 list of companies
NTPC is raked 411. This power generation company established in 1975 aims at becoming an integrated power commanding height with
total power value chain.
Total installed capacity of NTPC is 29,394 MW (mega watt), comprising 15 thermal power stations with installed capacity of 23,395 MW,
7 gas based power generating stations with capacity of 3955 MW and 4 joint venture power stations with capacity of 1794 MW. NTPC
plans to have an installed capacity of 75,000 MW by 2017. During 2007-08, NTPC accounted for 28.5 of total power generated in India.
Till March 2008 NTPC's installed capacity was slightly more than 19 of aggregate installed capacity of India.

Brief history of NTPC
NTPC had its inception in 1975 as a unit for developing electrical power for India. Initially set up as a public sector undertaking,
National Thermal Power Corporation made its initial public offering in 2004 with 5.25 of its share. NTPC has 15 thermal power
stations located in Badarpur (Delhi), Dadri (U.P.), Rihand (U.P.), Tanda (U.P.), Singrauli (U.P.), Unchahar (U.P.), Korba (Chattisgarh),
Sipat (Chattisgarh), Simhadri (Andhra), Ramagundam (Andhra), Talcher Kaniha (Orissa), Talcher thermal (Orisssa), Farakka (West
Bengal), Kahalgaon (Bihar), and Vindhyachal (Madhya Pradesh). Total commissioned capacity of these thermal power stations is 23,895
MW (mega watt).

Gas or liquid fuel based power plants of NTPC are located in Kawas (Gujarat), 1hanor - Gandhar (Gujarat), Auraiya (U.P.), Dadri
(U.P.), Faridabad (Haryana), Anta (Rajasthan), Kayakulam (Kerala). These seven liquid/gas based power stations have a commissioned
capacity of 3955 MW.

NTPC has additional four power generating stations in Durgapur, Bhilai, Rourkela and Ratnagiri set up in joint collaboration.

Products and services of NTPC
Power generation is the main activity of NTPC which has an installed capacity of 27,850 MW shared by 22 generating stations. Four
generating stations in joint venture have an additional capacity of 2044 MW. Consultancy in fields of water supply and treatment, fossil
fuel based thermal power stations, environment engineering, and cogeneration plants. Consultancy service has got NTPC over 435
domestic and international orders.

Power Management Institute in Noida provides classroom training in power plant operations and management. Full Scope Replica
Training Simulator for coal and gas based power plants makes training meaningful and effective. Students from outside NTPC can also
undergo these training schedules.

Financials Highlights
NTPC as on March 2008 achieved sales of US $7.84 billion and profit of US $1.6 billion. Total asset worth amounted to US $20.34 billion.
