be expected.
• Connect the LS 900® to the PC with the enclosed USB2.0 cable. Use of the 2 m cable supplied with delivery is recommended.
• Insert mains cable. Integral mains components work with the voltages specified under section 8.1 'Technical data'. It is not
necessary to select the voltage on the device. If an instrument table has been supplied, the power supply of the LS 900® can be
connected to the mains socket in the left-hand drawer of the table
5.2 Fixation
To obtain usable results, the patient must stare at the red
fixation light in the measuring lens during measurement. If the
patient has difficulty seeing the fixation light with the eye being
measured, this can be remedied by fixing the other eye on an
opposed remote object (53).
To carry out peripheral measurement of corneal thickness, 32
green fixation points are provided. These can be switched on or
off by software. The points are arranged in 2 rings. When the
patient stares at these points, a peripheral zone is measured
with the following distances
a: from the horizontal axis (standard eye R = 7.8 mm):
outer distance: 2.7 mm Inner distance: 2 mm
b: Fixation periphery
c: Eye
d: Fixation center (Measurement beam, red)
5.3.2 Keratometry
Keratometry is calculated through the position of 32 projected
light reflections. Sixteen measuring points on each eye are
arranged in two rings with the following diameters (standard eye
R = 7.8 mm):
Outer measuring points: 2.3 mm
Inner measuring points: 1.65 mm
For each measuring point, the equivalent of an ideal sphere is
calculated.
The values displayed (flat radius, steep radius) correspond to
the radii of an ellipsoid that fits into the assemblage of points.
The axis of its rotation is measured counter-clockwise from the
horizontal to the flat radius. (55)
e: Flat radius
f: Steep radius
g: Axis of its rotation
The LS 900 is practically maintenance free and only requires minimal care to provide complete satisfaction over a long working life.
However, we recommend instructing a service engineer who has visited a HAAG-STREIT biometer training course to overhaul the
biometer periodically. HAAG-STREIT or your local agent will be happy to provide further information.
7.2 Cleaning
Regular dusting of the device with a soft cloth is sufficient. More stubborn dirt can be removed using a soft cloth dampened with
water or alcohol (70% alcohol)
Avoid making the device wet and under no circumstances use solvent or any other abrasive
! CAUTION
methods.
The accessories of the LS 900 include a dust cover. Cover the device when cleaning work is in progress, or if the device is not in use
for long periods. Before switching the device on, the dust cover must be removed.
! CAUTION The device must not be covered when its state is switched on (overheating, fire risk).

The polarisation alignment must always be carried out after one has carried out any kind
of service on the instrument, especially after removing the service cover and always after
BEWARE any situation in which the instrument received a hard knock.
The polarization alignment should also be carried out in cases where customers
complain that the signal of the lens measurement is not good.
To follow the polarisation alignment procedure, follow the instructions step by step as is seen on your monitor. See steps below.

! CAUTION ESD – Electostatic Sensitive Device – For all repairs, the technician must be grounded.
Before removing housing parts, the device must always be disconnected from the mains power
! CAUTION
by unplugging the mains power cable.
ESD protection
Slide the cover off towards the front and then pull it in an
upward movement.
Once you have gently pulled away the front cover (never
pull it away with force), place it on a clean surface.
The functional check must always be carried out after one has carried out any kind of
BEWARE
service on the instrument.
Do not touch the optical fibre. If one slips with a screwdriver and hits the optical fibre, it,
! CAUTION it can very easily get damaged and then the complete instrument needs to be replaced.
Be very careful, especially in the vicinity of the motor magnets!
2 boards in association with the measuring head that can be replaced are the Power board and the Connection board. How one
removes these two boards is described below. All the other electronic boards and fibre optics can NOT be removed. If one
encounters a problem associated to one of the other boards in the measuring head, it is necessary to send the instrument back to
HAAG-STREIT in Köniz, Switzerland. For this you must use the original box, not to damage the unit.
Gently pull the power board out of the 40 pin socket on the
processor board.
The functional check must always be carried out after one has carried out any kind of
BEWARE
service on the instrument.
The connector board comes together with the cables (Power cable, USB cable and the 6 pin slider-board flat cable)
Remove the 6 pin flat-cable with the red connector from the
processor board.
Remove the 6 pin flat-cable with the red connector from the
connector board. For this you need to loosen the metal clip
holding the flat cable.
Remove the 2 torx screws (size 10) from the bottom side
of the connector board.
After removing the power cable, remove the 6 pin flat cable
(slider-board cable) and then the USB cable.
Remove the cables gently, not to damage the connectors.
Before removing everything to get to the fuse, we recommend you to check the 12V
) TIP
source on the DC socket with a multimeter. If you have 12V power on the socket then
measure the 12V on the white cable connecter (black and red cable) seen in chapter 7.7.1.
If you have 12 V across the white connector then the fuse is OK.
Remove the 2 torx screws (size 20), using a torx key, then lift
the complete measuring head unit
The functional check must always be carried out after one has carried out any kind of
BEWARE
service on the instrument.
7.8.3 Control lever compl. (How to remove the engaging wedge – Part number 3000510)
1) Make sure that the cable is inserted into the slot and through the spring correctly.
! CAUTION 2) Make sure that the glide plate is assembled correctly with the smooth side on the
bottom and the structure is aligned vertically to the base
The functional check must always be carried out after one has carried out any kind of
BEWARE
service on the instrument.
7.8.5 Removing the elevation spindle with gear (Part number 3300636)
The functional check must always be carried out after one has carried out any kind of
BEWARE
service on the instrument. See chapter 8.3
