Pleiades is an
example of an open star cluster – a group of stars that were all born around the same time,
from a gigantic cloud of gas and dust. There are seven stars in Pleiades, which are named
as Alcyone, Atlas, Electra, Merope, Taygete, Pleione, and Maia. They are extremely
luminous and will burn out quickly. Pleiades is one of the star clusters that is nearest to the
Earth and is also the star cluster that is most easily visible to the naked eye in the night sky.
