Summary

A very important or essential component of the MBA program is the two-month Summer Internship

and industry experience to add value to their resumes. At IILM, there were many alternatives and choices
regarding SIP selection. The first contact day at The Profit Idea Company was on April 15, 2024, which
also acted as an icebreaker for me. In the last 90 days, I have learned a lot about how the consultancy

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES DURING SIP
During the tenure of my SIP, I was entrusted with various roles and responsibilities that greatly
contributed to my professional growth. These tasks encompassed diverse areas, and I had the opportunity
to delve into them extensively. In the subsequent sections of this report, I will provide a detailed account
of the specific roles I undertook and the corresponding responsibilities that were assigned to me. This
comprehensive overview will shed light on the practical experiences gained and the skills developed
throughout my SIP journey.

During SIP in the organization, we got an opportunity to make a report on a company, in which I
had done research on TATA STEEL LTD. and worked on the data from 5 years back, based on
technical analysis, fundamental analysis and Derivatives.

Fundamental analysis-Fundamental are associated with the economic health of a company. The
fundamental tells you the financial position of a company. We can say a company is having healthy
fundamentals if it is growing at a nice pace, generating a profit, and has limited debts (pledge
percentage) and abundant cash. The project work is an outcome of “A study on fundamental analysis of
TATA STEEL limited”. The study was carried out for the period of five years (2018-2023) to analyze the
financial performance of the Reliance industries. The tools used for analysis are ratio analysis (using
Piotroski score and other metrics) also by trend analysis. The findings from the analysis were
discussed in detail suggestions for corrective action like maintaining good solvency in order to meet
short-term and long-term obligations were given wherever applicable.

Brief Description of the Sector

The steel industry is super important in the world. It helps us build things and make progress. Steel is used in
construction, cars, ships, and more. It's a big deal because it creates jobs and adds a lot to the economy.

Making steel involves turning iron ore and scrap metal into steel. Here are the steps:

First, we get the raw materials like iron ore, coal, and.
Then comes iron making where iron ore becomes molten iron.
After that is the steel making process which refines the molten iron to make steel.
Next is casting into different shapes like slabs or bars.
Finally, finishing touches are added before the products are ready for use.

Steel production happens all over the globe in places like Asia, Europe, and North America. China makes the
most steel followed by India, Japan, the United States, and Russia.

Some major players in the steel industry are ArcelorMittal from Luxembourg, China Bouw Steel Group in China,
Nippon Steel Corporation in Japan, POSCO in South Korea, and Tata Steel in India.

They all contribute a lot to making steel accessible for everyone.

Overview of the Steel Industry

The steel industry encompasses the processes involved in producing steel from iron ore and scrap metal. The
primary stages of steel production include:

1. Raw Material Extraction: Iron ore, coal, and limestone are the essential raw materials used in steel
production. Iron ore is mined from the earth, while coal is converted into coke, which is used as a
reducing agent in the blast furnace.

2. Iron Making: In the blast furnace, iron ore is reduced to molten iron through a chemical reaction with
coke. The impurities are removed as slag, and the resulting molten iron, known as pig iron, is used in the
next stage of production.

3. Steel Making: The pig iron is further refined in a basic oxygen furnace (BOF) or electric arc furnace
(EAF) to produce steel. In the BOF process, oxygen is blown into the molten pig iron to reduce carbon
content, resulting in crude steel. The EAF process involves melting scrap steel using electric arcs,
offering flexibility in production and energy efficiency.

4. Casting and Rolling: The crude steel is cast into various shapes such as slabs, billets, or blooms. These
cast products are then rolled into finished products like sheets, plates, bars, and structural sections
through hot and cold rolling processes.

5. Finishing and Coating: Steel products undergo additional finishing processes, including heat treatment,
surface coating, and quality inspection to meet specific industry standards and customer requirements.

Short History of TATA STEEL LTD.

Tata Steel was established in 1907 by Jamshedji Tata, an innovative industrialist, with the creation of India's first
integrated steel plant in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. The plant began production in 1912, marking the early days of
India's steel industry. Over time, Tata Steel expanded its operations, adopting modern technologies and increasing
its production capacity.

The idea for Tata Steel was conceived in the late 19th century, but it wasn't until 1907 that the Tata Iron and Steel
Company (TISCO) was formally established. The site for the steel plant was chosen in Sakchai, which was later
renamed Jamshedpur in honor of its founder. The location was strategically selected for its proximity to iron ore
and coal mines, as well as access to water and railways.

In 1912, Tata Steel commenced production at its Jamshedpur plant, which was inaugurated by Lord Chelmsford,
the then Viceroy of India. The plant had an initial capacity of 100,000 tons of steel per year. Tata Steel's early
products included rails, fish plates, and other steel products that were essential for the construction of railways
and infrastructure in India.

Over the decades, Tata Steel expanded its production capacity and diversified its product portfolio. After India
gained independence in 1947, Tata Steel continued to grow and evolve. The company expanded its operations,
setting up new plants and acquiring additional resources. In the 1950s and 1960s, Tata Steel established its own
research and development (R&D) department to drive innovation and improve production processes.

In the 2000s, Tata Steel pursued a series of strategic acquisitions to enhance its global presence. In 2007, the
company made a landmark deal by acquiring Corus Group, a major European steel producer, significantly
expanding its global footprint. This was followed by integrating various steel manufacturing units in Southeast
Asia, further strengthening Tata Steel's position in the global market.

Today, Tata Steel continues to be a leading industry player with its focus on sustainability, innovation, and
operational excellence. The company's dedication to environmental stewardship, corporate social responsibility,
and community development has established its reputation as a responsible corporate citizen.

Challenges:

Working as an intern is complex and highly regulated. I find it difficult to quickly understand the
complexity of networking to win clients, difficulty in technical analysis, research on the last five-year
data to analysis with the help of fundamental analysis or ratio analysis.

I faced some tough challenges that helped me grow and improve my skills. One of the biggest hurdles I
