6 BRIEF RESUME OF INTENDED WORK:
.
ABSTRACT
Neck pain is the fourth leading cause of disability. Most episodes of neck pain will resolve with or
Without treatment, but nearly 50% of individuals will continue to experience some degree of pain or
Frequent occurrences. Few clinical trials have evaluated treatment for pain in cervical region.
Homoeopathy is more effective in managing all the symptoms which are related to pain in cervical
Region. In the literature of homoeopathy numbers of medicines are mentioned for pain in cervical
Region related conditions. Homoeopathic medicines are given on the basis of totality of symptoms
and differ from individual to individual. It helps to neutralize the pain and prevent the progress of Pain
management of cervical region. The medication is based on homoeopathic principles, so Treatment is
long-lasting and permanent. All the symptoms are collected after careful observation and case taking
followed by totality of symptoms. To endeavour the efficacy of Juglans cinerea in the pain
management of cervical region with NDI.

KEYWORDS: neck pain, cervical region, Homoeopathic medicine, Juglans cinerea

INTRODUCTION:
Neck pain is very common. It is estimated that about 1 in 3 people are affected once a year. Neck pain
causes considerable personal suffering due to pain, Disability and impaired quality of work and life in
General, which can be a great socio-economic Burden on both patients and society. The symptoms are
usually harmless and go away on their own after a while. But they might keep coming back again, too.
The risk of neck pain problems becoming chronic generally increases with age. Neck pain is also often
more persistent in people who have already had back pain or a slipped disk. Neck pain is pain that starts
in the neck and can be associated with radiating pain down one or both of the arms and shoulders.

Pathophysiology: -

The pathophysiology for the majority of neck pain conditions is not clarified. There is evidence for
disturbed oxidative metabolism and elevated levels of pain-generating substances in neck muscles,
suggesting that impaired local muscle circulation or metabolism can be part of the pathophysiology.
Neck pain is also associated with altered coordination of cervical muscles and impaired
proprioception in the neck and shoulders. Evidence suggests that these phenomena are caused by the
pain, but also that they can Aggravate the condition.

Who gets pain: -

It is higher in females than males, peak in middle aged people.

Risk factors for pain

5
Psychological Biological occupational
*Anxiety Autoimmune disorders *office &computer worker
*Stress *Genetic *Manual labours
*cognitive variables *Gender *Health care workers
*sleep problems *Age
* Sedentary life
*Obese

Neuromusculoskeletal Disorders: -

Muscle strain, ligament sprain, myofascial pain, fibromyalgia, facet joint pain, internal disc disruption,
somatic dysfunction, spinal fracture, vertebral osteomyelitis, and polymyalgia rheumatica, atlantoaxial
instability.

Classification of neck pain: -

Pain based on duration

Acute < 6weeks

Sub-acute ≤3 months

Chronic > 3 months

Homoeopathic Treatment: -

Name of the remedy: - Juglans cinerea

Common name: - Butternut
Family: - juglandaceae
Parts used: - inner bark

6
6.1 NEED FOR THE STUDY:

Aim: - To demonstrate the effectiveness of juglans cinerea in the pain management of cervical region
with NDI.

HYPOTHESIS/OBJECTIVES:

Hypothesis:

H0: There is no significant action of Juglans Cinerea in pain management of neck.

H1: There is significant action of Juglans Cinerea in pain management of neck.

Objectives:
1. To evaluate the patients with pain in cervical region and to know the homoeopathic
management.
2.To evaluate Juglans Cinerea in pain management of cervical region.

6.2 REVIEW OF LITERATURE

1. A study was conducted, where the patients can choose whether to go to a conventional or
homeopathic doctor, has documented the Effectiveness of homeopathy in reducing the use of
conventional pain medications. This year-long study compared patients with a variety of
musculoskeletal disorders, this also includes neck pain. The homeopathic patients used 25% fewer
narcotics and only Half as many NSAIDs. Not surprisingly, they had fewer adverse Events. Yet, there
was no difference in specific functional scores and no loss of therapeutic opportunity in the

7
homeopathic cohort— all the more surprising, since the homeopathic cohort’s Conditions were more
longstanding.
2.Musculoskeletal complaints during computer Work, including portable computer, are caused
by prolonged awkward body posture. The Most common bad working postures observed in computer
operators are forward bending/Inclination of the back and head as well as Excessive wrist extension.
In Turn, excessive forward bending of the head and the resulting static muscle tension is mentioned
As a risk factor in neck pain.
3.Cervical pain is very much commonly growing disease in this modern era. There are lots of
therapy & Medication used in conventional method, but it gives patient for relief of sometime. In
Homoeopathy, there is lots of medicine for such kind of disease. We have lots of medicine to relief
pain & reduce its reoccurrence. For such kind of disease, we must follow management, exercise, and
diet along with medication which gives a very pleasant result. Few remedies are Arnica, Calcarea
Carbonicum, Bryonia, cimicifuga, Guiacum, Hypericum, Gnaphalium, Ustilago, Ruta.
4.Exercise intervention includes muscle strengthening, muslce endurance, stretching. other types
such as proprioceptive re-education, coordination & stabilization exercises. Few findings revealed
strong evidence supporting effectiveness of muscle strengthening, endurance for treating neck pain.
Moderate evidence indicated that muscle endurance exercise was effective for reducing disability
attributed to neck pain.

5. Nape of neck is rigid, lame feeling, pricking up and down spine. Aggravated during moving the
part, drawing a long breath, sitting position also in afternoon times, occasionally shooting type of
pain.
